Default Newbie with arachnoid cyst left S2 and a few other issues!!

Hi

I have just come across this website and thought I would join!

I had an accident in November last year when I slipped and fell on a wet floor in a supermarket. I landed on the top of my left buttock at the sacrum area / bottom of my spine.

In December I was told I had a possible L5 pars fracture, so I've had an MRI which shows:
-NO disc problems
-NO spondylolythesis
-mild ligamentous hypertrophy*
-mild facet hypertrophy*
*not sure if this is anything to do with my accident or if this is just the way I am!

I had a CT scan as well, but I won't get the results until 24th April, by which time I hope if I did have the pars fracture it has healed.

During the last 5 months I've been saying I had pain in my pelvis / sacrum, but unfortunately the hospital said they don't take patient requests for scans so I paid for one myself.

I went to Medserena upright Centre in London and was diagnosed with an "Arachnoid cyst arising from the nerve root sheath of the left S2 nerve root within the nerve root canal".

I've booked up a private appointment to see Mr Casey at The Wellington Hospital in London in May, so I hope I will find out what can be done about the cyst.

I am certain it is the cyst causing me pain, because the fracture would have healed by now and the symptoms I'm experiencing fit with those of a symptomatic cyst. Unfortunately, my GP has said the cyst isn't clinically significant.

Fingers crossed I can get some answers soon, but I'm trying to get as much information as possible about everything (pars, facet and ligamentous hypertrophy and cyst) because the pain, limited mobility and quality of life has decreased to such a point that I feel like I'm just existing day to day rather than actually living. My life has literally been upside down since November and I just want to get better so I can go back to work.

Thanks for reading!

Hi lsgoodchild,
Welcome to the NeuroTalk Support Groups.

As well as the Forum that Darlene has suggested you might also try searching in the subsection area called
Other Diseases & Concerns

There are separate areas there for Colloid Cyst, Tarlov Cyst etc..
I just ran a search there for Arachnoid Cyst and there are some older posts that may have information in them that can help you.

Also found some in the
Spinal Disorders & Back Pain Forum

If you need help to navigate NeuroTalk, please just post back and someone will be sure to help you out.
