Default Food allergies and GAPS

I'm breastfeeding our 6 month old, and he has an ever-growing list of food allergies. We've had his blood tested, and he's allergic to the following things.

wheat
dairy
eggs
peanuts
tree nuts
soy
corn
bananas
coconut
oats
flax
sunflower seeds
oats
garlic

dogs
sulfa-

I'm assuming there are still more, we just haven't figured them out yet.

I've started the GAPS diet for me and as he begins to eat more "solids", I'll be implementing the diet on him.

Is that the best solution for us. Obviously we have a leaky gut, right?

Since he's just now starting on table food, what should his diet look like? Is it just mini GAPS?

Hello & welcome,

I moved your thread here to the New members forum for greetings, and here is the listing of our forum topics-
http://neurotalk.psychcentral.com/index.php
There is allergy, child health and some other topics that you might find helpful.

Did anyone suggest holding off solids foods and only nursing for a longer time?
Or does he react to what you eat thru the milk?

You may get some nice results seeing a naturopath, my boys have food/dairy sensitivities and MDs rx meds and such , but they only really did better after taking them to naturopath.. and only took a few visits.. then I got books on homeopathy and learned a lot for my self.. and you can get the remedies online as they are no rx needed.

Default Naturopath/ Salids

Thank you. He's reacting to things I consume through my breast milk. We are also working with a naturopath and nutritionist.

We've been on probiotics, and we're working on GAPS. I just don't really know how to approach it with him. It is crucial that he gets the healing powers GAPS gets as well, so I would like to start him on solids sooner rather than later.

Welcome to the NeuroTalk Support Groups.

I'm sorry your baby is dealing with so many allergies.
In my mind that points to problems in the digestive system.

Just curious, but do you have food allergies?

I would wonder the same thing that Jo said regarding continuing breast feeding while you're doing the diet. I know that's not always possible though.

I've heard about the GAPS diet in the Autism community and elsewhere, but know only a little about it except that it sounds complicated if you're going from breast milk to first solids, but I'm sure it's been done before. The woman/doctor who designed the diet believes that the health of the gut is paramount to the health of the brain.

It's a pretty complex diet that includes all sorts of other things including probiotics, vitamins, enzymes etc..so I'd definitely make sure you're doing it with an health professional's guidance.

You probably would find more info over on Latitudes.

EDITED to add
: I just did some more reading about all this and it sounds very extreme and even at times a little weird to me personally. Just my humble opinion though.

I would definitely get professional advice before starting something like this for first solids!!!

I'm sorry.
I started writing my post before you had posted again.

You answered some of the questions in it.

Default GAPS and Allergies

I'm over a week into the diet, and I'm doing fine. I don't mind continuing to nurse, and I had plan on doing that, but nursing isn't going to heal his leaky gut. GAPS will though.

Is there anyone here who has done it?

And no, we have no known food allergies in our family.

You could check out Latitudes.

Latitudes.org

Our Child Health and Autism forums here are quite slow lately unfortunately.
Often you would find special diet information in those types of forums.

I did a quick search in there and didn't find anything specific to Gut And Psychology Syndrome.

You could try a Full Forum Search.
http://neurotalk.psychcentral.com/search.php

I just did one but so far could only find mention in one post in Epilepsy Forum where someone was discussing ketogenic diet and similar.
Epilepsy Forum

Edited to add: I just found one post by searching for "Campbell-McBride" (author/founder of the diet book)
That is in the Peripheral Neuropathy Forum and unfortunately the author of the post
only ever posted once.
Here is that link though - Post 9 - : Reversal or improvment of your PN!! (success story's)

Had another thought. I tried searching for
"Specific Carbohydrate Diet"
and there were quite a number of posts.

Do you own the GAPS book??

Default SCD/Book

Yes, I just finished the book last night, but it isn't really geared toward babies. In fact, the book has me no longer offering breast first. Rather, she says to do broth, probitoic food, solids first and then nurse. Nursing is used as a reward. I don't think I agree with this philosophy for a number of reasons.

I'll try searching SCD. It's essentially full GAPS

Thanks
