Default Post op ACDF issues .

Hi there I am 6 days post op from ACDF 1 level surgery. I am doing ok, except to weird symptoms .First I have the issue with swallowing ,that seems to be the norm with this surgery , but every time i reach forward or lean down I feel like I am being choked. Also twice now I have woke up with extreme burning in my throat kinda like heartburn. It just seemed strange to me that it the burning only has occured while I was sleeping. Both of these symptoms are kind of scary. Has anyone else had these issue? If so did they go away? I have put in a call to my surgeon but have not heard back yet. I hoping they will tell me this is normal being it has only been 6 days . Anyone please let me know if you have had similar issues. Thanks.

Hello breea,

Welcome to the NeuroTalk Support Groups.

Here's the link to the
Spinal Disorders & Back Pain Forum

If you repost there you'll find others who have some experience with the surgery.

I hope you're feeling better fast.

Thanks Doctor called back said it was most likely due to swelling and the plate . Should get better in a week or so. However Now I am apparently developing acid reflux ?? Getting extreme burning in my throat 3 times now at about 1-3 am ...They said it would not be from surgery , but have never had this issue before. Plus its not like i am eating spicey foods about all i can eat is oatmeal, mashed potatoes and applesauce without choking .

Hi breea,
Hopefully someone who has had the same type of surgery will reply to your post in the Spinal Forum.

I just did a search in there for "reflux" and a number of posts came up, but they didn't have too much information in them to help you.

One tip if you're experiencing the burning feeling only at night is to raise the head of the bed.

I hope this resolves for you once the swelling from the surgery goes down.
