My husband was in an accident a couple of months ago, I know it doesn't seem like much based on some of the threads I read, but its been a very drastic change.
During the accident he never actually hit his head, he was at a dead stop and was rear ended at 45 mph, but the seat belt caught him. He went ahead to the hospital after the accident, they didn't say anything of concern. Went to another hospital about a week later (he's one to suffer in silence) and they found a fairly common cyst on his brain and didn't show any concern about it. Went to the neurologist a few days ago who diagnosed a sever concussion months after the fact. I asked him about when my husband would get back to normal and he said within the next few months he'll be pretty close to as good as he's going to get. His symptoms include: Headaches Dizziness Shaking Difficulty with memory Sleep difficulty Major personality changes (I'll elaborate below) Cloudy thinking Easily frustrated Antsy I hope not to offend anyone but it seems almost like he's suddenly turned ADHD. We have been married nearly a decade and conversation had nearly died, now I hear the same things at least 10 times a day and he forgets he ever told me and becomes almost petulant when I tell him so or quit listening. He's started picking and aggravating me and the kids almost to the point of tears, now he's putting forth an effort but it used to not require an effort to not aggravate us all to death. He's gotten nosy, if we're somewhere else he feels the need to go through and see what's in drawers and closets. He's up and down all night. He used to be a wiz with mental math, but now it takes him a few minutes to figure anything up. He'll call me 5 or more times during any trip to a store because he can't remember what I asked him to pick up. Its just frustrating for all of us... The kids have started saying that they want their 'old' daddy back. |

Welcome. There are medications to alleviate some of the physical and mental symptoms. What medications is he on and what are they for? There is a vitamin thread at the top of the page that you could take a look at and start him on, if he isn't already. Hopefully he will improve well in the coming months.
For now, he should be resting his mind and very minimal exercise, if he can do any at all, start with five minutes walking if necessary. Did his primary refer him to any other doctors? Others will be along with guidance. |
