Thumbs down New Here

Hello all!
I'm on this site because my Mom had a spinal cord stimulator installed a few years ago after she completed the trial (which, by the way, was wonderful). She has had nothing but problems since getting the actual implantation. She and the rest of the family were so excited to think that she would be able to live a more normal and more pain free life. But, that is not the case. I don't think there has been any point where she is glad she went ahead with the permanent stim. She doesn't get pain relief, and, in some ways, I believe it's made things worse. Has anybody else experienced this or know someone who has? I just feel so helpless because there's nothing I can do to make things better.

Cool Smirk Pain Support

Hi, Judysdaughter,
Sorry to hear your mum isn't responding to her implant. I have no experience of them, they are not widely available over here, but believe me, I know the suffering caused by chronic, severe pain of many kinds.
The best thing you can do is just be there for your mum - read the thread 'Lack of Support' in Chronic Pain Forum. That's all most of us need, or want, from our loved ones - understanding.
Most of all look after your own mental health. It will do your mum no good if you get depressed or become overwhelmed. You can always come on here to vent, or express your concerns.
Dave
