Smile New and looking for answers for my son.

Hi All!,

So glad to have found this site, and hope that someone out there can give some insight as to my son's state of health.

He used to be a healthy teenage boy. Not anymore. He will be 18 in a few weeks. He has chronic migraines, he says if you split him in half straight down the middle, his complete left side of his body is in constant pain. He sometimes has chest pain, muscle twitches, and tingling. Hot feels hotter and cold feels colder on his left side. Tons of blood work, CT's and MRI's. Usually the blood work is fine. Recently, we have been told that his B12 is high, (this is the second time in a year it has been elevated) he does not take or drink any kind of supplement. And his vitamin D levels are low. His red and white blood cells are normal and so are his platelets.

He never feels good and has the blues. I was wondering if any of you have experienced anything similar?

Thanks for your time. I look forward to speaking with some of you.

Hello JakesMom,

Welcome to the NeuroTalk Support Groups.

I'm so sorry to read about the migraines that your son is having. They sound extremely severe.

I'll post a few links below where you may like to look for information or repost.

Headache (includes Migraine)

You could ask about the Vit B12 and Vit D levels over on the
Vitamins, Nutrients, Herbs & Supplement Forum
There are some reference thread at the top of that forum for specific vitamins
http://neurotalk.psychcentral.com/thread16628.html

There's also a Vit 12 thread on the Peripheral Neuropathy forum.
Vitamin B12 Thread

When you say his B12 is elevated, I'm wondering what the result was for that? It may help other people who may be able to make suggestions if we know that.

Has your son been ill with anything specific before all this started? Infections/Viruses?

Are the migraines new or has he had them all his life?
There is what is called Hemiplegic Migraine. Have you looked into that at all? It may not be related to his difficulties but worth a read.

Hemiplegic Migraine
MedlinePlus Sporadic Hemiplegic Migraine

I'm sure you'll find a lot of information and support here to try to help your son.

take care.

Hi Jake's Mom,
My issue is unrelated but I do know loads about nerve injury and compression and have had more than one nerve related surgery. Has anyone suggested thoracic outlet syndrome as a reason for the chest pain, tingling etc.? I know from my own nerve issues that tingling and even muscle twitches can come from nerves that are being compressed. this can also cause a cold limb or a limb that is sensitive to temperature.
It's always good to try new meds, different things work for different folks. Neurontin was mediocre for me and made me depressed. Nortriptyline 25 helps my nerve pain quite a bit and is better on mood. They also use this for migraines with fair success. Botox can also help. Low Vit D is linked to nerve issues and chronic pain - definitely worth supplementing. Mine was low even on a multivitamin and living in Texas. Go figure...

So sorry your family is going through this. It's killer when our babies are the one's who suffer.

Sending Healing Love
