Multiple Sclerosis is a disease of the Central Nervous System(CNS) which includes the brain, spinal cord and optic nerves. Damage to the CNS from MS can show up anywhere within the CNS. If MS is a consideration then having a MRI of the cervical spine would be helpful. Damage by MS to the spinal cord can cause problems from the point of damage...down. When having MS a person usually cannot completely pass a neurological exam. Having a clear MRI does not rule out Multiple Sclerosis. There is no single test, by its self, which can indicate MS. There is a diagnostic criteria for diagnosing MS --- The McDonald Criteria. This relies heavily on MRI evidence but there is other testing, if positive, can help support a diagnosis of MS. One other consideration is Thyroid Disease. This can also cause double vision. |
