It is time for you to find another doctor!

Thanks mrsD. Appreciate your inputs. I have seen several Neurologists at top most tertiary care centre but of no help and everyone is providing symptomatic treatment like duloxetine and benzo to control symptoms.

I guess...Skin biopsy would help detect small fiber neuropathy however are there any blood test to confirm neuro toxicity or DNA damage due to Cipro...or other antibiotics. Some blood or Dna test that wud be there ....some bio marker to confirm cipro induced damage. I read about low serum magnesium in case of cipro toxicity but magnesium levels are normal in my case.

Also, forget to mention that I am taking supplements containing l carnitine, zinc, q10 and other amino acids with methylcobalamin. For weird burning/ electric sensation in side of left thigh/ buttocks I am using tens which is helping with burning in feet as well.

There is no DNA test that I know of for Cipro damage.

Here is the fluoroquinolone post on my thread about drugs that damage people:

http://neurotalk.psychcentral.com/post661103-2.html

There are some links on it that explain further. And since that post was made in 2010, there must be newer information.

Dr. J. Cohen remains the front runner in explaining damage from fluoroquinolone antibiotics.

And a "normal" result for magnesium is rather useless. That test of the serum is only medically useful for very very low levels or very very high levels. A "normal" does not mean you have enough magnesium in your cells.

Here is my magnesium thread:
http://neurotalk.psychcentral.com/thread1138.html

This is explained on the net in many places by many other experts than little old me.
Here is one example that is quite easy to understand.

MrsD, thanks for those links. Quite informative. Going through other thread on Vitamins, Nutrients, Herbs and Supplements as well. I think so i need to change L-carnitine to Alpha- L- carnitine and Alpha Lipoic to R lipoic acid

Would appreciate if you can provide your thoughts on following. Apologies for the long list.

1. Substitute to SSRis, Benzos, Pregab, TCAs to avoid burning, odd paresthesias since the dosage of drugs would only be heading north as the body gets used to it with free side effects unasked for.
2. Why the burning pain waxes and wanes (even when I am not on meds)
3. Any alternative medicines as in chinese, korean herbal etc. that can help, stimulate with regeneration of fibres (assuming antibiotics might not have destroyed all the 'machinery' required to regenerate nerve fiber!)
4. Do not have kefir available but have prebiotic and probiotic generic capsules with 9 strains of bacteria with fructo oligosaccharide
5. Reasons for more burning outside thigh/buttocks and other paresthesias in legs more while sitting? Is it only to do with blood circulation?
7. Any idea/info. on stem cell therapy/gene therapy for small fiber neuropathy?

Thanks & Regards,
Nash.

Hi Mrs D can you plz reply. Also wanted to know whether alpha lipoic acid or r lipoic acid are best supplements for improving glutathione level.

mrsD 03-23-2015 07:11 AM

NAC -- n- acetyl cysteine is the precursor for glutathione.

And I believe low zinc levels are problematic to with it. You can get blood levels done for zinc and the zinc/copper ratio.

Pain in the thighs only... can be from the lumbar region where the lateral femoral nerve exists the spine. This is a sensory only nerve..that goes thru the abdomen to enervate the lateral and front of the thigh. Belts that are too tight, sitting on a wallet in the back pocket or jeans/trousers that are too tight in the crotch/groin area can compress this nerve as it exists the abdomen. When this condition occurs it is called meralgia paresthetica.

illustration 2B shows this nerve in a diagram.
