Default Hello from Houston....

My name is James and am a 50 year old male from Houston, TX. Going to try to get some advice on my yet undiagnosed situation. I will try to recap so it is not too long.

I have always been pretty healthy and exercise regularly so this situation kind of throwing me for a loop.

About three years ago my feet often felt uncomfortable with a burning sensation so I would not wear socks and did not think anything more of it. Well about 5 months ago my ankles started having this same burning sensation.

I finally got tired of it and saw a cardiologist that diagnosed me with venous reflux in both legs and prescribed stockings.

Well about this time I noticed that I started having twitches in my left calf that have since spread to several other body parts including my right leg occasionally as well as my arm. I also noticed that my wrists were starting to get a burning sensation in them as well. I then developed the ants running under skin feeling.

This is when I made trip to a neurologist. She did the clinical tests and sent me off for blood work, emg and nerve conduction study along with mri's of lumbar and cervical w/wo contrast. She also asked me to pick up imaging from MRIs of head and cervical wo contrast which I had done a month earlier.

She also prescribed 300mg of Gabapentin daily. Well the Gabapentin got rid of the ants immediately. She has since dropped me down to 200mg daily which has been effective.

I returned to her after the EMG, NCV and blood work. The blood work was clean. She examined the head and cervical MRI (both wo contrast) and said they was great and did not feel like it was necessary to order the MRI w contrast at this time for the head. The EMG and NVC were both normal with the exception that it confirmed a known issue of
Severe C5-C6 neural foraminal stenosis.

I must complete 4 more weeks of Physical Therapy before my insurance will approve the Lumbar and redo of Cervical MRIs

At this point in time my burning sensation and twitching are still continuing. Does anyone have any advice of where I go from here? Am I going along the right path?

Thanks in advance,

James

Hello James,
Welcome to the NeuroTalk Support Groups.

I'm not sure what to suggest except to check out the Peripheral Neuropathy Forum

The members there would probably have information and support to share with you.

There is also the Spinal Disorders & Back Pain Forum

I hope you find some answers.
take care.
