Default What is sporadic hemiplegic migraine in regular talk

My husband has been "diagnosed" with sporadic hemiplegic migraine.
Doctors all seem to agree on this hypothesis and want to place electrodes directly on his brain matter by cutting open his skull.

Anyone have this diagnosis that wld be willing to share/educate me?

that includes migraines.

You could also try a forum search using

Smile Welcome!

Hi Hershey Lover,

Welcome to NeuroTalk.

I like the article shared by Kiwi.

My family shares the familial form of hemiplegic migraine. The article explains the difference between the familial form and the sporadic form. The difference being one is genetic, one is not.

I had not heard of the type of treatment you mention for hemiplegic migraine; however, people in my family respond to medications to prevent/halt ongoing hemiplegic migraine episodes.
I'm assuming your husband either does not respond well to the medications for prevention/treatment or is intolerant of the available medications.

Will look for you in the headache forum below.

Again, welcome!

DejaVu
