Default Looking for support and answers to my diagnosis

Good early morning, I am new to this. Last week I was diagnosed with chronic myelomalacia from the C3-4 through C5. I've been trying to do research to figure out exactly what this is. My neurologist was vague and said I have 5-10 years to live maybe 15. I've been an emotional wreck and my husband isn't much help. I plan to try to stay positive for my grandchildren who we are raising. Everything happens for a reason. I survived stage 4a aggressive breast cancer I'm 7 years cancer free so once again, with an awesome support group I will fight this to the end🙂

So sorry you are having to deal with this. From what I read, it appears this is a softening of the spinal cord that can cause bleeding in the spinal cord. Staying positive is probably the best defense; this may be something that can go on indefinitely and still provide you with life's good experiences as well.

Congratulations 7 years cancer free. You are obviously a real fighter.

Hi Aug71,

I am so sorry about your diagnosis but glad you are reaching out for support.

I would encourage you to consider a second opinion. They are sometimes life or disease course changing. There may yet be interventions that can be helpful if there is something causing the condition or to stabilize the situation to minimize damage to the nerves.

I had the best luck getting specialists for an odd ball health situation going to a major academic medical center. It required travel on my part but it made a difference. Please don't accept a dire prediction on outcome without getting more info from an expert first. You are worth it.

I hope you find answers and relief soon,
