Default Introducing myself

Hello, I am a Mom helping my adolescent son through his recovery from a head injury. He's recently transitioned from acute concussion recovery to post concussion syndrome. I'm going to try to find the TBI/ Concussion section of the boards. I'm glad to have found this place for support. It's incredibly lonely IRL when your friends truly do not understand what you are going through.

Hi Lorax,

Welcome to NeuroTalk. Just like your son I had a concussion a few yrs. ago and I had bad headaches along with short term memory loss that would come and go. My neurologist told me all of this was happening do to the swelling in my brain from the concussion. Tell your son to cut back on the carbs and starch foods along with sweets because they will cause more activity in the brain. in regards to the headaches one thing that helped me was cold water therapy and that's when you put a cold washcloth on your face and the back of your neck 3 times a day or anytime you start to feel a headache coming on. By doing this it calms the neurons down in the brain stopping the pain. Also your son may want to try taking vitamin B12 once a day this vitamin helps calm the nerves down. I wish your son and you the best of luck and May God Bless the Both of You!
