Hi everyone. So this is a summary of my story and i'm feeling a bit lost and scared. If anyone has insight i'd love to hear it.
My legs started showing signs of weakness back in January. Driving became hard to do. From then it seemed they were taking a long time to recover. Then i lost my balance getting out of the car and fell wrong at the end of Jan damaging my pirformis muscle. The pull/pinch itself eventually faded but it left my right leg REALLY weak. Then a week ago in the evening things just went south. I was walking around walking out my right calf muscle that seemed to tighten so easily (i presumed due to my pull/pinch and subsequent weakness) when muscles in my torso started to twitch. I sat down and my arm started to get sharp pains in different places, various muscles in my torso started to spasm and my legs kept twitching. In a weeks time now I need canes to walk (though i'm pretty sure i shouldn't be walking) and my legs have either lost muscle mass or basic strength. It's kinda weird looking. I can make it to the kitchen to get food but then I have to lie down after and go through a bunch of muscle twitching/spasming before i can move around again. Dr's have no idea what's wrong. Initially my Dr said it was the combo of Vit D deficiency and my sugar levels being out of wack, but last week when everything got suddenly a lot worse he said it was more than just those things, but he wasn't sure what it is. This coming Tuesday I have an EMG and something else to see if this is neuro related. I seriously hope they have answers cuz my arms are starting to break down now that i'm using them more with the canes. Anyone feel this sounds familiar? It's scary to be going through. |

Hello LizRo and welcome to NeuroTalk.
Your symptoms could be related to just about anything and testing will help narrow the field of possibilities. A lack of leg strength could be as simple as a lack of exercise and strength building. It's possible you might have a mechanical back problem such as spinal stenosis, bulging/herniated discs, etc. It takes very little time to lose strength. Depending on a cause Physical Therapy can be a good option for regaining strength and mobility, but please get the advice of a Physician before seeing a Physical Therapist. Best wishes on your upcoming EMG.
