OK. So I maybe be clutching at straws. My son has been unwell for nearly 2 months, 3 weeks in hospital. He is 13 years old, nonverbal with CP and has a ventriculopleural shunt which was revised in January 2020. He has all the general tests and scans (except MRI) and all have come back clear. He is in pain somewhere and having large violent pain episodes, thrashing, biting and arching every afternoon starting at about 4pm. We are unable to sit him in his wheelchair or anywhere without pain/discomfort. Before this he was always so happy and social and now just unhappy He always slept through the night and on his left side. At the moment he won’t roll to that side and his sleep pattern is horrible. This is the side his shunt has always been on. I could be barking up the wrong tree but could his shunt be causing this?????
I just want my happy boy back. |

I have no medical training but ventriculopleural shunts can cause some complications, and I think you're probably right in suspecting that the revision that was done in January might be causing your son's problems now. You say he's had many tests,
and I'm wondering if anyone has thought to look into the question of the shunt. I hope you'll ask your son's doctor about the shunt. I hope that something can be done soon so he won't have to suffer like this.
