Hi everyone. I am new to this group, and I am very interested in hearing what everyone has been through, and what has worked for you. I have TN for over 30 years now with different levels of pain and medications. Five weeks ago, my TH has gone to a different level that I never endured before. I had episodes that happened four to five times a day continuous with sharp stabbing pain, fire hotness in my cheeks, sizzling shocking pain from my nose to my ear and/or up to my eyes. They went on for 2-2 and a half hours with no relief. I called my Neurologist and she just added another Gabapentin, making that 1200 gr a day along with my regular 1200 gr of Trileptal. I got no relief from that and had to go to the ER twice for Morphine shots. The second time after getting the (2) Morphine shots in a few hours, right before I left the ER they gave me a shot in my face right by the ear, and that is what seemed to have helped. It has been four days and I have not gotten any of the long stabbing pains. I do get some pain once and awhile, but nothing that lasts for hours or is unbearable. I do not know what that shot was called, maybe when, and if I get a printout bill from the ER will I find out what it was. I am really stumped what could have brought these horrible, long lasting attacks on in the first place. I did not have any dental work done recently, or neck surgeries or any kind of surgeries done. It's a mystery, but I hope they never return like that.

Welcome, JacquieMoser!
The pain of trigeminal neuralgia can be very severe. If I read your post right, you're wondering what the name of the miracle drug that helped you is. I'm pretty sure you can request a copy of the chart notes from that visit to the ER. Whoever treated you would have written down the name of any drugs that were prescribed, and you can find out that way. But you should request the copy soon as many medical facilities have trouble providing older records. It would be helpful to know the name of the drug, just in case you ever have to go through that level of TN pain again.

I just looked into TN and omg, never realized it. Found a couple links that you may have read:
Alternative and Complementary Treatment Options for Trigeminal Neuralgia | PainScale Woman who had surgery Facing the Pain: Monroe Woman Finally Finds Relief from Trigeminal Neuralgia - CentraState Healthcare System I have been using homeopathic remedies for years and some work good for me and others not. OP, have you looked into homeopathy for TN? I find Topricin homeopathic lotion for pain a lifesaver in my life, but I am not challenged with TN. But thinking out loud. Homeopathic Remedies For Trigeminal Neuralgia Treatment and Cure Even going with a homeopathic doctor for their opinions and support. Just a though as I'm always trying to "figure" out ways to get improvement. |

One other thought OP, I've worked with Grape Seed Extract for over 25 yrs and did a search with Grape Seed Ex and TN and did get some hits. Here is one. There can be so many supplements out there that we don't know about. And Grape Seed Ex in my life has been short of a miracle. I don't know where my life would be without it, but won't even wander there.
Dietary grape seed polyphenols repress neuron and glia activation in trigeminal ganglion and trigeminal nucleus caudalis |
