Wink Hello!

I have pre-diabetic nueropathy. I had muscle weakness for a year before
I developed nueropathy. I am on a clinical trial at the University of Texas
at Southwestern here in Dallas. I take insulin to hopefully keep me from
becoming a full blown diabetic. I have been using the Anodyne Therapy.
I don't have pain but my feet are numb (but I can feel the accelerator??)
My toes on my left foot are turning under. I feel so fortunate not to have
the awful pain some people experience.

I do not take any meds for the neuropathy and never have. My neuerologist
gave me a trial bottle of Lyrica but when I googled Lyrica and weight gain
I received a lot of hits. I am now overweight so couldn't afford to gain
more.

My problem is balance. I am terrified of falling so keep a walker in every
room to grab when I am getting out of a chair. I wish I could find help
with the numbness.

I am limited to what I can do outside of the house. I use a walker when
I do go out.

Other members of this Communitie might be interested to know, I am
widowed and live alone in a two bedroom townhome. My children felt
I needed Assisted Living. I pulled up Craig's List and found a wonderful
young (30) South African advertising that she would pay $200-$300
a month to share a condo or house. I e-mailed her with the proposition
that I would wave the rent if she would help me keep the house picked up,
run my errands and go to the grocery store. Her mother is with the
South African Embassy in London. Annie was schooled in London and
has a good background. I really lucked out. She works about two
miles from my house. I hope if other Communitie members might need
help, they will peruse their citiy's Craig's List on the internet.

Well, didn't mean to be so long winded.
Hugs!
Carolyn

Hi, CWC, welcome to NT! Sorry to hear about the problems you are having. I am glad, though, that you found us.

I like your idea about trading free rent for help... if I could, I'd do the same.

Here is the link to the diabetes forum: http://neurotalk.psychcentral.com/forumdisplay.php?f=53

I see several threads about PN in there, I'm sure they can help you with that aspect of it... but in case you want it too, here's the thread for the PN forum:http://neurotalk.psychcentral.com/forumdisplay.php?f=20

I'm sure you'll find NT to be all that you could want.... a fount of information, and full of compassionate people who are there for you emotionally.

Hi, Carolyn!

Welcome to NeuroTalk! What a cool deal you have with your new housemate! That's so cool, a real handshake kind of deal.

I'm in a similar situation with my father. He doesn't want to go to a "home" either, so I'm here to keep him here. The real question is, which one of us will end up in a nursing home first?

I'm glad you found us and if there is anything we can do to help you, please don't hesitate to tell us!
