Crazy Counting Sheep

Hello all, my name is Ann and I lakes region of Minnesota. Happy to find this site, hoping to find information and learn how others deal with some of the issue that have arrived in my life over the past year. Last January, I cam down with a viral cold that was making the rounds in our community. I am a nurse, so I was one of the early birds who caught it. It progressed like any upper respiratory viral infection - not quite bad enough to make you go to bed, but bad enough you don't feel like doing much. I think everyone has had a cold like this. But for me, this time it was different. I wasn't getting better - not getting worse, but not improving. Then I began to have intense facial pains on the right side of my face. Made three trips to the ER. I was diagnosed with trigeminal neuralgia. So, started dealing with that. Two months later, I was becoming more and more tired during the day. Had everything checked out, doctor ordered sleep tests. Final diagnosis was severe sleep apnea. Started CPAP, but only had about 50% improvement. ANother sleep test, and a diagnosis of severe idiopathic hypersomnia. So, the odd thing to me is, I have a viral infection, then develop two neurological conditions. The IP and neuralgia. Virus is being found to be the cause of so many conditions, I can't help but wonder if that is what happened in my case. So, hello everyone!

Ann - welcome to NT..... I'm counting sheep unsuccessfully right now. I am sorry to hear about your developments over the last year. I was diagnosed with Idiopathic Hypersomnolence (also neurologic) around the same time as you. I'm still trying to figure out how to deal with that in conjunction with some other neurologic problems. Best of luck, and you have found a great community waiting with open arms.

I only took Shelley's because she took my first.
I know how overwhelming all of this information can be at first ; don't be afraid to ask questions or post your own thoughts/ideas. Again, sorry you're here, but glad to have you!
