Becca, I have been a neuropathy sufferer for about 10 years and I can empathize with you. In spite of my affliction I still walk 3 1/2 To 4 miles daily. I have found that days I fail to walk are the days that I suffer most. My Dr. prescribed neurontin for me about 3 years ago and I have finally found something that allows me to continue my day as normal as can be expected. The only complaints I have about this med is that I have increased from 300 mg to 900 mg in this time period and it makes me very sleepy. I would rather put up with the increased sleepiness than with the constant pain. Most people don't understand how debilitating this disease can be and it makes one very frustrated trying to explain what you are going thru but more and more medical professionals and the general public are finally understanding our plight. As for your husband include him in all your efforts to find a comfortable way to deal with your situation. The more he understands about it the easier it is for him to help with what you're going thru. God bless ya, Larry C.

Hi - my 12 year old son will start on neurontin tonight and will be up to 900mg in 3 days - does it really help? He has regional pain syndrome in his stomach - amitriptaline didn't work at all - any advice you have will be appreciated.

hi becca,
I'm so sorry for your pain. My son is suffering from severe pain in his stomach and they think it is neuropathic as well. I just found this site the other day - people seem very friendly and full of information.

You are in my thoughts -

I have only just joined this Forum; and yours was one of the first posts I've read. I have enough imagination and insight to appreciate and acknowledge the acute suffering undergone by people such as yourself. I hope that my words may bring just a little comfort to you.

I do not suffer neuropathic pain myself. It is my wife who has to undergo all this. I cannot perform miracles; but I speak directly, with an open heart, and I wish you well.

There is a man called Eckhart Tolle who has written some immensely iinteresting books, in the second of which - so I believe - titled 'A New Earth' - he refers to, and writes extensively about what he calls 'the pain body'.

It may stretch credulity at first sight; but it's essentially related to the realization that all we perceive as real is ultimately illusory. He adduces good reasoning for his viewpoint. If you feel you must dismiss me as some kind of fruitcake, I shall not take it amiss - not one bit.

I wish you the best possible outcome for your complex problems.
