Default hydrochloric acid levels in people with rsd

Hello everyone.
I am interested if anyone has seen any stats or studies involving hydrochloric
acid levels in those with rsd. My mom has had "the ugly pain" for 16 years and I am continuing my search for the reason why. I am also curious if any other people with rsd are iron deficient. There seems to be a link between hydrochloric acid and the bodies ability to accept iron. This may be nothing, but it MAY be something. TOGETHER we WILL fill in the pieces of this puzzle! stay strong people!

Default Welcome to Neurotalk.

Hmn. That's an interesting theory.

I do know, through the analyses of Central or Thalamic Pain Syndrome I've read, that trophically maintained pain often involves an overage of the acidic Substance P (you can read a lot about this at www.centralpain.org), but have not yet heard of the HCL link.

Have you posted about this over at the RSD/CRPS forum here? Those people are very knowledgable:

Lightbulb low stomach acid

is called achlorhydria. It occurs fairly often as we age.. about 30% of older people may develop this.

It not only affects iron absorption. Zinc, B12, folic acid and calcium are
affected by low acid. Calcium is related to RDS. But I don't recall reading about low iron and RDS specifically.

Certainly low iron impacts the whole body in many ways.
And chronic use of acid lowering drugs will make low acid situations more
common than already occur.
