hello from sothern alberta
Fifteen years ago I had bacterial meningitus, several years later after being tested for all kinds of allergies I had bacterial meningitus again. We had a new ear, nose and throat specialist arrive in Medicine Hat, Alberta, Canada and he came to the hospital and tested my leak for sugar with diabetes paper and I was losing cerebral spinal fluid. Then I was told that I would have to go to the University Hospital in Edmonton, Alberta for brain surgery. I had to wait 3 months while on penicillin for the scar tissue to form so it could be removed during the surgery. My neurosurgeion was Dr. Broad, My head was opened by the hair line, they dropped my forehead, and made a wedge in my skull, and removed the fractured cribiform plate in my head. They took the lining of my brain and wrapped it around the plate and put it back. I was told that the lining of my brain would grow back. I was hard headed for a few years but very thankful to be alive as I had six children to raise. I have done extremely well and never had too many problems because to the surgery.
Lately I have had a sinus infection. that has been hard to clear up ( it seems that everyone I talk to lately has sinus infection). Saw my doctor today and he stated that he probably wouldn't be able to find a doctor that would agree to do the surgery because of my brain surgery so i have to hope my sinus infection will eventually clear up. I still feel that overall I would recommend the surgery to anyone that is faced with it.
