Smile burning mouth

Hi All,

I am glad I found this site. I have been looking for someone I could talk to about this syndrome.
I have had burning mouth for about 1 1/2. I have had many tests. Nothing yet is telling them why. i take vitamin b-12 shots once a month and the Doc has me on nuerontin for the pain. It helps but I have had to up my medication regularly. I have mild gastric disease but that Doc says he does not believe that is the cause. I am also on highblood pressure med, and thyriod meds. We have check all this out soooooo...... I am hanging in there and praying this thing will go away.

If anyone has some suggestions on things that worked for them to calm this down I would so appreciate your advice.

Anyway Hi to all and God Bless Sherri

Default Well...

If you do a search for burning mouth on this website, you might get some of the answers. I think there have been posts before.
I too have burning mouth, but mine is part of the Small Fiber Sensory Neuropathy caused by Sjogren's Syndrome.

I've heard others on the Sjogren's forum say they did get relief from their burning mouth by having their gastric symptoms treated. Please explore this problem. Have they diagnosed your gastric problems?

Also you might ask for testing for Sjogren's Syndrome.

One of the things I've found that helps mine is Biotene Gel made by Oral Balance. I use a small amount to coat my mouth. I believe they make a spray also.

Good luck,
Billye

Smile burning mouth

Thanks Silverlady.... I had a blood test for Sjogrens Syndrome and it was negative. I am also being treated for my gastic disease. I take carafate 3 times a day. I am allergic to the protonpump ihibators. I have been on a gluten free diet for 8 years also. I will try some of the gel that you suggested. Thank you so much. Sherri

Default Welcome to Neurotalk.

You've already gotten some good info from the other responders here, and it's true that burning sensations in the mouth can have a lot of possible etiologies.

I wouldn't dismiss the possibility of Sjogren's just yet with a negative blood test--seronegative Sjogren's is very common. Have you been evaluated according to the diagnostic protocol:

http://www.neuro.wustl.edu/NEUROMUSC...n.html#sjogren

Also, see if any of this looks familiar:
