Default new to neuropathy

Hi everyone. even tho I believe we are a spirit living in a body for growth, I am reacting to this new thing: neuropathy. I have had numb toes for 3 months, went to the balls of my feet, on the tread mill today, it seemed the heel of the right foot seemed numb!!!!!!!!!! I saw a neuro yeaterday and went thru a slew of labs today. my gut is they will all be negative. I am the healthy eater of all my peers. I eat mostly organic, had a B12 and folate test done, negative. my nurse peers have given me B12 injections. it all beats me. i really think the labs will be normal and I will be one of the 30% without a reason for neuropathy. No pain, just numb. It will take 2 weeks for the reports. I am a little worried. i don't want to be using a walker and crawling to work (:- ) Keeping positive but it is an enigma. Leila

Default Welcome to Neurotalk, Leila.

I see Darlene has already given you the link to the neuropathy forum.

Take a look especiay at the Useful Sites "stickies" at the top of the forum that contain info about types of neuropathies, testing, and the like. There are over 200 known causes of neuropathy, and probably at least that many still unknown, but it's very important to get proper testing, and in many people's experience, that's very hard to do, as most neuros are just not familiar with the breadth of the field.

For instance, a serum B12 test may not tell you whether you have a B12 deficiency at the cellular level--homocysteine and MMA testing is better at spotting that, but many doctors are way out of date on the issue.

Make sure you take a look especially at the Liza Jane speadsheets for neurological testing at www.lizajane.org--a good way to not only suggest tests to doctors but to track results over time.
