I too have RSD....
The way I describe, so that they may understand, what I am feeling due to the my RSD is:

1. My body feels like i've been left in the sun on an iceberg for days and now someone is rubbing me with sandpaper.

2. Imagine being out in the super cold until you are frozen numb then going inside and taking a HOT shower to warm up.

3. Imagine your clothes are made of razor wire.

4. Imagine walking across millions of pieces of broken glass that are on fire. That's how I feel with each step.

Those usually get their attention and help them to understand a little of how I am feeling.
