Default infant AVM surgery and shunt info.

Hello! I'm sitting here at Duke Hospital in North Carolina where we've been for 32 days now. My son, Warren, just turned one last week. He had an AVM rupture which led us to brain surgery one week ago today. He also was placed with a shunt just yesterday morning. I'm just looking for anyone's advice on anything, really. This is all brand new to me. I fear many things, but one is an complication with the shunt when my son isn't yet old enough to tell me what's wrong. Of course, at this point... he's still on so many meds that he's not himself at all. We hope to not be here more than another week and then we're off to a rehab center for a few weeks of therapy. If anyone has been down that road, I've love some information on what to expect. This is very new, as we're still in the hospital. I just found this website and thought it could offer some good support.

Thanks!
Amy (Warren's Mom)

Hi Amy,

Welcome to NeuroTalk. I'm so sorry that little Warren has had such a complicated month...I've posted the link to the Children's Forum for you. Possibly someone there has been through this experience. Please let us know if you have any questions. I'll keep you and Warren and your whole family in my prayers. Please keep us updated as to how he's doing. We all care.

Oh Amy, my heart goes out to you. My grandson will be one in less than two weeks, and I know all too well how precious a child can be.

Herekitty has given you the link to the children's forum, but if there's anything else we can do for you, you only have to ask.

Welcome to NeuroTalk Amy. I hope some-one can give you some answers, but please get back to us and let us know how Warren is going. I'll be thinking of him.

and WARREN...........

Hi, Amy! Welcome to NeuroTalk!

This has to be tremendously difficult for you. I hope you'll find some useful information here at NT.

Hello Amy and Welcome to NeuroTalk. So sorry to hear of all your dear son's problems. I know how scary it can be. My own son *who is 29 now* had many medical problems since birth and I can relate to how you feel.

I'm glad you found us though.... Maybe by visiting NT, you can gather some info, plus come here to let off steam or to just "get" away by yourself for a bit. Keep us posted on Warren, OK? take care of yourself too!

Amy!
Amyamyamy!

Stuck in Fayett-Nam, huh? I used to live just north of you in Spring Lake. I'm further south now in Elizabethtown, NC.

One big, warm, tight, hug, howdy and handshake, moose-size official type welcome to the site. And a gentle hug for my buddy Warren.
This place is amazing!

I'm so sorry to hear about what your son is going through, but if it's support you need... this is the place!

If you find the time, please keep us posted on Warren's (and yours) condintion.

You are not alone.
You are one of us.
And we are here to help.
