Smile Newbie here..Hello Guys (Inguinal Nerve help needed)

Hello, I'm a newbie........nice to meet you all. Sorry you are ill also.

(Here is a brief of my story and problems. I have serious inguinal nerve problems and need help from all who have experienced this...thanks)

I have a long list of health issues, but in Oct. 2006 I took a bad fall down the stairs (first time I did not hold on). I was bunged up, but did not feel anything was DAMAGED at the time. I have fibromyalgia, Lupus and long list of very painful ailments so I did not think much of it at the time.

About 6 months late, I began a nightmare of decline in my health. My groin started hurting. Hip was excruiating, back hurt some, inguinal nerve pain down leg was debilitating. I have had a very hard time getting diagnosed with what we now believe to be a bad injury to the Inguinal nerve.

Thought we were dealing with SI all the time and DOC did not seem to take groin pain very seriously at the time. Did a hip x-ray, it was fine, did pelvic x-ray, it was fine........then after much, much study and connecting the dots, I remembered the fall and have pertty much become DESPAIRING
with this inguinal nerve thing. Doing MRI this week.........I'm 20 months down the road from injury.

Pain meds do not help..........it's better on some days than others, but is still mostly debilitating. I water walk which has helped sometimes/hurt other times.

Please share with me any and all inguinal nerve involvement you have experienced and what help you might have received.

I've read about STERIOD INJECTIONS right into the nerve that totally healed it. Anyone had this.

I've also had Facet Joint and understand Inguinal damage can come from L- 1-2

This is only a brief of what I've gone through and am going through with this nightmare as you all know. (The Doc did not do new MRI because the SI JOINT injury was sooo plain to see on x-ray.....and we thought that's where my problem stemed from....NOT...I don't think so, though I know you can have inguinal nerve involvement from the SI)
HELPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPP, I'm in great depression and debilitation and appreciate all your input.

Hi Izzie and welcome to NeuroTalk! I see you've already found the Spinal and Back Pain forum and posted there as well. I'm so sorry for all the pain you've endured over the years. I hope you can get some relief soon. There are many caring people here on this site many of whom deal with back pain issues.

Lightbulb I had a similar

Injury... but it was more tendon strain than nerve damage.

I didn't feel it at the time, since I banged my knee...so in a couple of days the knee got better, then I continued exercising and working and about 6 wks later
the tendon blew out.

We had just arrived on vacation in a remote place with little medical service.
So I lived with it, stayed in bed, couldn't move my leg at all for 7 days, and the pain was indescribable.

When we got home I was sent to PT and they thought I ripped the tendon off my pelvis. After 3 treatments with IFC electro stim and ultrasound, I started to get less pain. I went for 3 mos to PT and slowly the pain faded...to a dull roar,
and now I don't have much except on exertion. I am not as flexible as before
however. I tire easily walking and have some lower back weakness on that side still (after 2+yrs.) It took forever to get better. I don't expect to ever be back to what I was unfortunately.

But don't discount TENDONS...they take a long time to heal, too. You may have damaged some tendons like I did.
I used Lidoderm patches with success. And Flexeril at night. But the doctor would not give me narcotics. Some days I need an Aleve liquigel, but the Lidoderm patches were the best for me. They are very good for nerve pain.

In your case you'd have to experiment a bit on placement. I found putting them on my lower back (sacral area) on that side to be the best location.

I bought an IFC unit to use at home, and that helped too. IFC is better than TENS. It actually stimulates healing.

What is the IFC thingy you're talking about.................a TENS unit by any chance ? I use a tens and sometimes it will help more than anything.

THANKS for your input .....

Interferential Current (IFC) that's what it means and here's a link to some information about it.

Lightbulb This is what I got...

http://www.healiohealth.com/tek9.asp...cific=jnnrmmm8

I think the ultrasound was the major healer tho.

The tendon that runs the adductors, is comprised of 3 parts that run
together and attach as one. The PT thought this is where the damage was.
I still cannot cross that leg...but I can do it lying down (which I couldn't before). But I cannot tie my shoe yet, but I can reach my toes now. So I hope maybe in another year?

And I have to do stretching which helps at times. I was told that there is a tendon capsule that wraps the hip joint and that a pull anywhere in there,
will also be tough to heal.

Getting into and out of the car was very hard for a while, or shifting in your seat...very painful...but those two things have healed up finally.

Any fall that shoves up the femur into the pelvis can do this type of tendon damage.

One term you may find is adductor avulsion syndrome. I know as each part of my injury healed, the pain from
that point reduced and I could feel OTHER pain. The last to go was the area of the thigh where the other end
of the adductors insert...near the knee. That was very sore and stiff for a long time too.
All of the ultrasound was done in the groin, and was very private... so I requested a female PT.
