Default TMJ triggered migraines

Hi all:

I am presently being treated with inderal for chronic daily migraines. It appears that the migraines may be related to TMJ, and I have researched a dentist who specializes in it. While there are no guarantees, he is recommending a course of action that involves a 3-hour computer based diagnosis of my preferred bite, and the creation of an orthotic to be worn 23 hours a day. I am hesitant to move forward with this procedure without feedback from satisfied customers. This comes with a cost of $5200. I am curious if anyone has experience with such a device or dentist. Would greatly appreciate any input.

HI Liz C

I am sorry that you are having such pain. I too have TMJ and just recently starting wearing a mouth guard. I wake up every morning with what I think is a tension headache at the back of my head.

The night mouth guard has helped some and I do have some neck issues that complicate it. It has relieved this pain I would get in my ears from clenching and sleeping so hard on them.

My ENT doc first told me about the TMJ. At that time he did tell me that the surgery really was not a solution that worked. But sounds like you are talking about a major bite adjustment.

We have a great gal, Byranna, in our dentistry program who should be able to give you some insight.
