Default Hello Again

I assume that this forum stems from the Braintalk forums that used to be provided through MGH. I started posting online there back in 1996 and was a member for many years. I had been unable to find the MGH forums for the last few years and just today stumbled upon these Neurotalk groups.

I'm glad to be back and be a part of this type of community again. I had really been missing the Braintalk forums as I really benefitted from being a part of that community.

Regarding me...I have had generalized tardive dystonia for over 12 years. My dystonia affects mostly my left side, but I also have dystonic attacks/storms that look similar to seizures only I am conscious during them. The attacks happen in response to certain environmental triggers and with certain medications. Dystonia affects my ability to walk and I use a manual wheelchair to get around. I also have a service dog that I retired about a year or so ago. He is getting old and stays home now. I may get another dog eventually, but I am currently working on my doctoral dissertation so it is not a good time for training with a new dog.

I am getting a Ph.D. in both Neuroscience and Psychology. I study neurodegenerative diseases and movement disorders and I hope to study dystonia soon. My dissertation focuses on Huntington's disease.

I also have severe gastroparesis (stomach paralysis) that may or may not be related to the dystonia. Gastroparesis also is related to dopamine dysfunction so I feel that they are related. Because I can no longer eat due to the gastroparesis, I get my nutrition intravenously each night through a central catheter (PICC).

I am also Mommy to a soon to be three year old. He is the joy of my life and keeps me going each day. He is the center of my life.

Thanks for reading and I hope to meet some more friends here soon.
Peace, Jen

Lightbulb Welcome to NT...

I do recall someone who had Tardive who posted. But I don't recall her name.
Hers was medication induced if I recall.

We have a member with gastroparesis, on PN forum. Her ID is kmeb.
She is not on TPN tho yet. I think you two should get together
Many PNer's don't leave that forum so she may miss your intro here, so please visit there!

Welcome to NeuroTalk Jen, and congratulations from me as well on your PhD. I had intended doing my Masters at one stage, but I never did get it done with work and chronic illness to occupy my time.

Default What a pleasure

I'm so glad you found us. I hang out in the PN forum. I think it is amazing what you have accomplished with the problems you have. Congrats on it all. I hope life improves for you but you have so much already. I love little boys. I had one myself and two stepsons. I don't know anything about tartive dystonia but I'm going now to look it up.
