Default Hello I'm Mazzie

Hi, I'm Mazzie and I've joined this community to try to find some answers about balance instability after severe whiplash.
Five years ago my stationary car was hit from behind in a high impact collision, spun and forced in to an oncoming vehicle. I was knocked unconscious on impact. Since then I have suffered severe spasms in my shoulders and neck, severe balance instability, nausea, vaso-vagal and short term memory problems. Vagal responses are brought on by turning my head to the side several times (such as to look at a person sitting next to me), tilting my head down or up for more than a few seconds, not looking dead centre when walking, carrying heavy bags or having my head jerked back when I'm with a jerky driver.
In England there does not appear to be a specialist in this problem and I cannot get a full report of what causes these debilitating symptoms, which prevent me from working.
Can anyone else suggest a specialist in this field? I am prepared to travel abroad to see a specialist.

Hi Mazzie and welcome to NeuroTalk!

Wow, it sounds like you've certainly had the problems since your accident. It sounds terribly painful. I've searched the forums trying to determine which would provide the most support for you and, while we don't have anything specific to whiplash, we do have a Spinal Disorders and Back Pain forum that might prove to be of some help. I've posted the link below.

Please feel free, though, to join in on any forum you feel comfortable. We're glad to have you join us!

Hi, Mazzie! Welcome to NeuroTalk!

It's hard to recommend a single specialist when we don't know what exactly is happening to you. I would recommend communicating with the Cleveland Clinic neurology department for help with a referral. This clinic is located in the US state of Ohio.
