Default New -PHN

I have almost constant nerve pain in the nerve above one eye- subraorbital neuralgia. I've tried many medications the past 8 years but nothing seems to help very long. Topamax seemed to work for a few months but then when I had to start increasing the dose, it not only did nothing for the pain but the side effects at the higher dose was unbearable. Side effects of anti seizure drugs are problem for me as I start increasing the dose.

I'm not taking Neurontin and up to 3000mg. So far it is not helping. I just started Nortriptlyne a few days ago but the antidepressants cause my heart to race and then the nerve pain gets worse when that happens. My doctor is considering adding a beta blocker to regulate my irregular pulse.

I've tried several topical pain relievers and had various things done to the nerve by the pain doctor such as botox, pulsed radio frequency, and an implanted trial stimulator over the nerve. Nothing relieved the pain. I take Percoset but it does not completely get rid of the pain but usually helps.

I had shingles in the nerve several years ago but did not go to the doctor and get the antiviral medication until about a week later. Does anyone have this type of neuralgia and has helped them?
