Default have neurologists heard of B12 deficiency?

Hello, just happened to find this terrific spot. I couldn't resist telling those of you dealing with b12 issues the following: I have been to four specialists and was days away from major surgery when someone finally said, "oh yes, why don't we check your B12 level" ... after numerous mri's, brain scans, xrays.... On a scale of 211 to 989, my B12 reading was 67. (Is that some kind of world record??? 67!!!!! OMG. I then was given ONE shot 1000 cmg and sent on my way with no follow up instructions. Needless to say I am going to the fifth doctor TODAY. wish me luck and blessings to all of you facing your personal challenges. pearl girl

IN terms of the B12 keep on top of it. Many of us ere take 1000mcg or more of methyl b12 a day.

GET THE TEST, PLEASE. YOU DON'T WANT TO FIND YOURSELF DEPLETED AS I WAS; BARELY ABLE TO WALK. SMILES AND BLESSINGS TO YOU. pearl

Hi Pearl Girl and welcome to NT!

I am also B12 Deficient and have my B12 checked every 3 months. I give myself B12 injections twice a month or monthly depending on the blood tests.

I can't speak to other docs but my PCP and Neurologist are both quite educated on B12 deficiency and looked for it when I was being dx'd with MS. B12 deficiency mimics MS. I can always tell when it's time for my B12 shot as my energy level declines and my toes are more tingly than normal.

There is some good information on this forum about B12. Read up on it.

Welcome!
