Default My Life

I am 33 years old a husband and a father i had a good job in the oilfield. On 1/18/08 a coworker dropped 250 pounds of metal on my left heel. I have CRPS now from it. When it first happen i thought no big deal i would get better i guess i was wrong? My life has changed so much from then till now i had to fight WC to get help because of course it's not their fault this did not happen on the job to them? I got an attorney to help me fight them i had to jump through hoop after hoop and am still doing so. I have had MRIs,Bone scans,CAT scans,a number of XRAYS,TWO spinal blocks, And now I have a spinal cord stimulator. I am still out of work and am still in a great deal of pain it did go fine for a bit but went right back to the same way it was before i had it put in. I have had it adjusted and had the meds adjusted but nothing seems to work. I have and still am doing PT and AT but it kills me every time i do it some days i cry from the pain it makes me feel like less of a man i can not play with my kids like before. I do see a psych DR to let me get a lot off my chest but it sometimes seems like he just does not understand? My pain management doc lately seems to make me feel like she thinks I'm faking the last time i seen her she tells me i don't care if your pain is at a 10 pain lv you need to keep doing pt that's what i care about. Now maybe it's me but if you are my pain doc that is what you should be worried about helping me get my pain down? Not putting me in more pain i know pt is trying to get the movement back. But to me when it comes down to it i am the one with pain all the time and have a foot that feels like it is always it a ice chested i have to sleep with my leg on pillows so that my foot does not touch the bed i do not sleep but maybe three to four hours a night if that. I will end this for now but will tell you more about my life and i know that i have forgot a lot but maybe i will remember some of what i left out lol? TO ALL WITH CHRONIC PAIN TRY TO STAY POSITIVE AS HARD AS IT MAY SEEM.

hey

I just posted a PT experience on the "Thoracic Outlet" forum you may find interesting. I do understand your confusion.

The therapist may be using work-hardening techniques on you and you may not be tolerating that too well right now.

Or it could be just the cold, hard facts for some PT patients. "Good pain, bad pain; good injury, bad injury... I'm so confused. I don't understand." I've been saying that for years now...

PT has been good for me in the long run. I strongly recommend it. Most people would not go through what I've went through in PT. But not all sessions were bad. Some were very passive and soothing. I just have had a lot of PT.

Ask your PT therapist what the goal is here?

Ask yourself, am I progressing with this program?

Did your doctor just write an order or was your doctor specific with the therapist about what to do?

Sometimes having a WC claim, and other type claims, causes your treatment to go in a certain direction rather than in the direction that's the most healing to you. I did end up changing therapist, at the first therapist's request. He knew I was trying but was digressing. The therapist he recommended did the myofascial release.

and no, my friend. It's not always pleasant. Most the time it's not pleasant. I remember it taking at least 3 days to get over therapy and I was back on the table again for more. Just compounding things in a sense I thought too. I some ways I'm sure, but other ways I needed that too.

Communication between your therapist and you should be in unison and with realistic goals for you, both short term and long term. Adjusting as you progress or digress or regress. I've learned this difference from experience.

You have to talk to your therapist and doctor (write down questions and concerns before you go. somtimes this is annoying to busy doctors and therapists. But you have to ask sometimes what and why and what if and can I, why not, and what have you. Just let them know you want to get better. That's your main goal.

You'll find a lot of info here.
