Welcome to our community of caring people.

It's good you found us. We're here for you. I know it's scary. I would be scared too.

Life seems to take on new meaning when it gets complicated by sickness. We lean on each other, so you can be the leaning tower of Pisa right now... we won't let you fall.

I also have Grave's disease and had my total thyroid removed. My left eye became 1 and a half inch bulged and my right one is 2. I was having blinding moments. I had trembles, I was losing weight one day and gaining it the next. I had palpitations of almost 200. Almost thyroid storm. I was hospitilized 3 times. No medication worked for me. So we made to remove it. But I hemmoriaged after the surgery and almost died. The surgeon said I hemmoraged because of the Grave's disease. It has now been 1 yr. since my surgery and though surgery helped my eyes not to bulge more than prior to surgery, less trembles, and I think it saved me from going blind. Everything else is still the same. The doctors can't seem to get me on the correct dose to get my levels right. I still have palpitations, but they are more like 120. And my parathyroid was touched during surgery, so now I have nerve damage there. I hope this helps someone.

Hello,
Sorry to hear you have Grave's Disease. I was diagnosed in 2008, had a difficult time because my levels could not be maintained at a normal level. For me, it was a rough course with 2 thyroid storms in 1 year and bad eye problems. 4 weeks ago I had orbital decompression through the nose so that my eyes could be recessed back into the sockets. (my eyes were literally outside of mu head) I had eye muscle surgery prior to that and lid reconstruction will be done in about a month. It is important to realize that this is an autoimmune disease that attacks the eyes as well as the thyroid, that even after my total thyroidectomy, I continued to have thyroid eye disease, the autoimmune response was not "fooled" by the absence of the gland. I guess what I am am trying to stress is to seek treatment for any eye problems or changes as soon as you can.
