Book Hi. I'm Mirabel, and new to this forum.

I'm very happy to have found this forum, and hope to share with others.

I suffer from TBI as a result of a catastrophic car accident two years ago. The accident also left me with other disabilities, so I've been trying to slowly pick up the pieces and re-build a life for myself. I still suffer extreme 'brain pain' and so that is a current challenge for me.

I am female and 44 years old. It is not easy to start over again, especially with no family available to offer support, but I have made great improvements. I look forward to getting to know the members here, and learning about your experiences, as well as sharing information.

Best wishes out to all.

Default We're practically twins!

Welcome to the NT forum!

Like you I suffered a TBI and other injuries (incomplete spinal, broken bones, etc...) in a terrible car accident about two years ago.

I have a diffuse axonal brain injury so, also like you, everything I do is a challenge.

I had to leave my fabulous job, but I am lucky to have family and friends (for now???) who try to support me. It's not easy for them because the personality changes wrought by frontal lobe damage have made me a virtual stranger to them - and to myself.

I know how hard it is to rebuild your life - especially with material that could generously be called sub par. It is a real struggle and when I, foolishly, think of all I’ve lost I can sink into real despair. For the sake of my young child, I’m holding on and taking all the physical and cognitive therapy I can get. Like you, I am seeing small improvements. Nothing will get me back to where I was, but I can manage more daily tasks which has increased my independence and reduced the frustration and anxiety I’m sure you know all too well.

Coming to the NT forum has been great for me. It is just so comforting to be able to communicate with people who understand. I especially like meeting other car accident TBI patients. Unlike others, our injury wasn’t incremental – it happened in the blink of an eye. It is so hard to explain what it’s like to be fine one second and then open your eyes and find yourself in a strange, confusing world where you don’t even know yourself.

Again, welcome and I hope you find the forum useful. Maybe we can swap the coping tricks we’re learning in therapy.

Cheers

Cool

Hello, mirabel,

You have found a wonderful place here ... It practically saved my life and now improves the quality greatly. I did not suffer the same tragedy you did; however I do have brain boo-boos (as Hockey says) due to undiagnosed Pernicious Anemia. Brain atrophy and lesions... besides other nerve damage in limbs and neck.

You will find substantial information and friendship here. I can't encourage you enough to be active and read and ask questions... It's all here for the taking plus more than you can imagine.

Welcome!
