Hi Everyone,I am a new member to this site. I was just surfing the net trying desperately to find some answers to my medical problem. I have been have pain in the left temple area for over nearly 4 years. In the beginning my regular doctor did the sed-rate blood test for temporal arthritis which proved negative. Then I was diagnosed with breast cancer and had to undergo chemotheraphy. This put the temple pain on a back burner for about 6 months. However during the treatments I also developed a burning sensation in the lower gum area in on the left side along with the temple pain.Since this I have been to 3 dentists, 3 oral surgeons, 3 neurologists, ear nose and throat specialist and a pain clinic. I have had one healthy tooth removed and root canal on another tooth. Neither helped the pain.I have had MRI's that show not tumor so the doctors all tell me they have no idea as to what is causing all of my pain. One neurologist "guessed" that I had temporal neuralgia even though the pain I am experiencing is not episodic.I have been prescriped 4 types of antidepressants, Neurotin, and a anti-seisure medication. None have helped.I have a constant burning in the gum area both the top and bottom. I have constant pain in the left temporal area. My left side of my nose aches, my left eyes twitches occasionally and the left side of my mouth drools slightly. I now have a constant high pitched ringing in my ears. All of the symptoms appear to be nerve related, but I cannot get any answers as to the cause or any hope for a remedy. I went to a neuro-surgeon yesterday because I had heard that the gamma knife procedure may help but he said that I do not have trigeminal neuralgia so he would not do the procedure. He then had a neurologist examine me who said that she did not have any idea what was causing my pain so she gave me another antidepressant. When I asked what to do if it did't help she answered ..I don't know! Please help. If anyone knows of a test or procedure to diagnose my condition. I am desperate and feel that I cannot stand much more. My condition continues to worsen each day.

It does sound complicated.
It's hard to get treatment if they don't know what to treat. Doing nothing could be better than trying anything invasive. I've had a lot of pain so I know you're not feeling good right now. I had pain 24/7. Not easy to endure. I believe you, but sounds like you've had a lot of doctors examine and test you. You'll probably have to find a few more. Are you not getting any relief from anything? Have you tried over-the-counters, like Orajel, Head-On? Alternative type things would be like accupuncture. It may help. Reflexology, yoga, Pilates, massage therapist and exercise of some sort for better general health so you can cope with your problems better. Relaxation techniques. I've recently found a nautropathic lady who has a lot of alternative methods to treat people with. Didn't know she was even in my area. She's been here for 30 years!!!!!!!!!!! And I've also used LED and infrared light therapy that helped me tremendously. Not harmful but you do need to know a few things to get the best result. Not a heating pad but has a heat compoenent. More is not better. Treatment can be 5 to 30 minutes, depending on what you're treating. You can treat one area 3 times in one day. Just for thought, a D.O. instead of an M.D. doctor may offer a different approach for you. You may not be diagnosed, but manipulation can perhaps free some sticky fascia or impingements up. A D.O. is a cross between a chiropractor and an M.D. They can prescribe meds. they often treat by manipulating with hands on therapy. I'm assuming you've had adequate blood work, perhaps even chemical and metal poisioning testings. Medication/chemicals can cause ticks and twitches like you're describing. Maybe your signals are misfiring some way but not detectable to known testing. I do believe you. I know it's hurting where and how you're saying. I hope you get relief even if you don't find the cause. Maybe botox injections. The reason I'm thinking accupuncture and reflexology is because I do believe in their charts. There are specific points on the bottoms of your feet that transmit signals to specific places on your body. Worth a try. And there's always prayer. Ask for healing. ![]() Quote:

Hello and welcome to NeuroTalk. I'm so sorry to hear about the pain you're experiencing. I wish I had an answer for you. My first guess would have been neuralgia but if your neuro says that's not it then I'm not sure what it could be. Could it be a side effect from a med that you're currently taking? Could it be some form of Bells Palsy? Hopefully someone will come along here shortly and be able to help. In the meantime, welcome to the site. Sorry for your reasons for being here but glad we have the opportunity to try and help.
