Default Facial paralysis

Hi,
My mum has Bell's palsy on her left side that was not treated properly and now her facial paralysis is permanent. My ON and GN are both left sided. I have had no injury causing this so do you think nerve damage can run in the family?
Also.. Does anyone have facial paralysis from their Neuralgia?
Thanks,
Michelle
