Confused new here, head pain, cant sleep either

Hi there...I found your site after looking for information regarding Occipital Neuralgia. Started out by hitting my head against a screen door. Dont ask Tingling sensations and headache resulted! Thought they would go away but guess not.after 3 weeks I broke down and went to doc. Put me on Neurontin 300 mg day now up to 600. He did not tell me i had O.N. just that i damaged the nerve on the left side of the head. I found on line my symptoms where just like O.N. The tingling sensation is lessing after being on neruontin for 2 weeks now but I guess I am wondering if anyone else is on nerountin for this and waht dosage they are taking. I am tolerating the side effects ok.

The headaches are worse at nite when I cant lie on my left side and sometimes my right side impacts my left. AUGH. So cant sleep to well.
4 hrs mostly.

Also does it get treated with the neurontin after a while? seems that I still have the tingling sensations. Will the neurontin take the tingling away? It seems to be lessen but not gone.

Any input would be helpful.
Thanks

Hi, just wanted to welcome you to the site. I don't have experience with neurontin, but I do know it's for nerve pain. I tried lyrica but couldn't tolerate the side effects(too sedating for me) I hope the neurontin works for you. As you've probably read on the site, there are other treatments as well. I'm trying nerve blocks next week. Hopefully someone will come on and give you their experience with neurontin.

Take care,Diana

Cool Smirk Neurontin

Thank you..I hope I can find someone who can offer some suggestions. My doc only tells me so much. He's helpful but I cant ask as many questions as i would like so I learn so much more this way. I went to 900 mg of Nerontin and the pain is a tingling sensation and throbbing through my head but the crawling and tingling sensation is centered at my left temple. And sunburn makes it worse i find.

Did not try Lycira...seems I tolerate the Neurontin ok. Just a bit tired but nothing too bad.

Hi there!!!! I was diagnosed with O.N. a year ago. Neurontin did not help with my O.N. These are the only things that help me: I can not sleep on my back with the back of my head laying on anything, I have to sleep on my stomach or on my side and without a pillow. I can not wear hats, or heavy jackets. I can not have anything heavy resting on the base of my skull/neck area. I noticed that when I go for walks in the evening, my head pain is less. It must destress the muscles in my occipital area. I also use ice packs on the base of my skull for about 10 minutes and totally numb up that area. I also get the tingling feelings alot. It's kind of like electrical zaps zapping around my head. I'm really sorry you have this. I would never wish this pain upon anyone. I will pray for you and your pain. Good luck.

Default better??? ..maybe

Hi there,

I dont know if I have the O.N. or not. Like I said my doc said I did some damage to my nerve. I dont have any numbness at all. And the Nurontin for 2 weeks seems to be making a difference I cautiously say that. I am currently at 900 mg and will go to 1200 if necessary. Seems to be working ..

I feel for you with the sleeping thing. The headache pain and discomfort is worst at nite. Just all that pressure and sensation makes it so hard to sleep. I dont sleep on my stomach at all so maybe this is something I will have to try to get used to.

I also read that vitimin b12 Cyanocobalamin and b complex helps in nerve repair and growth? So much conflicting info i find I thought I would ask here and look here further.

Thanks for you help and your prayers

Sorry to read about your possible O.N. pain, it's certainly not much fun!
I guess all I can say, is that different meds/treatments work for different people. I've found that none of those meds have helped with my O.N. After trying many different meds, I finally got the nerve blocks, and they have been great in reducing my pain for about 3 months. They work well for me, and I don't have to take other pain meds very often anymore!
