Anyway when you said 'Enjoy the win, well deserved' I was uncertain whether you meant 'enjoy the win' or 'enjoy the wine' - have assumed you meant both! Cheers!

P.S. as you're off alcohol I hear there are some excellent alcohol-free wines. When you find them please let everyone know
P.P.S. Whoops! that should have said let everyone other than me know
Perhaps i need to move hemispheres. Ha ha. All warning labels say avoid alcohol so I ignored that and have a beer anyway. I'm only enjoying a drink on the weekend with friends and don't during the week and Gee don't i feel better during the week sleeping much better. But it's great to catch up and socialize with them after a week of work. I think i need to just make sure that i stick to just a couple of beers and just one wine or two. Ha ha.

Is all new to me this PN and I'm finding out more and more every week.

Looks like the balance was restored in the final Test, even our weather let us down.

A face-saving win for the Aussies, just came too late to save The Ashes. Probably one of the most riveting Test Series for a while, result notwithstanding.

Dave.

Agreed; utterly absorbing from beginning to end; more ups and downs than a roller-coaster

With the possible exception of the 1981 Ashes (when Ian Botham changed from being a broken man as captain in the first 2 Tests to near-Superman for the rest of the series) it surpasses any sporting event I've ever witnessed.

Can England retain the Ashes down under? Who knows? Certainly not the so-called experts who consistently got it wrong this time

David
P.S. When I saw an earlier post from Lara I initially thought of Brian Lara - easy mistake to make

As well as the terrible loss of life, there were so many brave sportsmen who gave up their careers to join the War effort. Of course, there were 6 years of War in Europe.

There were still football and cricket matches played during the War, with professional players turning out for Clubs near where they were Stationed at times, or short term loans being common to keep everything ticking over. Anything to boost morale and keep the masses happy.

Manchester City took a German Paratrooper POW, Bert Trautmann, as their Goalkeeper after the War and caused controversy. He quickly became one of our greatest Legends.
