I hate to be the wet blanket, but the squirrells I got are just hateful.

We've got two feeders we put corn on and a couple of them always show up "in a mood". High pitched sqeaks and jerking their tails about. Chasing each other up and down and around the tree.

And they don't eat the whole corn kernel. Just the center. Which is ok, I guess. The Bluejays eat the rest.

Tongue I don't like the little red ones!

We have a major problem with them up North....

We live on an island, and since the wolves left there is nothing eating
the red squirrels. They have learned to use our cat door, and they come in the house all the time, run around, break things. One even jumped on the screened window near my head when I was napping, and scared the beejeebers out of me.

We have used a Havahart trap twice....last year we took 11 off and dumped them on another island. 2 years before that we did 17 !

Some of our cousins SHOOT them, and the locals SHOOT them because they chew the electrical and telephone wires in the winter.

We raised a baby orphan squirrel once when my son was little. We took him to show and tell etc. But boy did he STINK! The smell was AWFUL....
I couldn't deal with him for long, so I took him to the Human Society.
When you see those cute videos....you do not get a sense of the SMELL! WHEW.

We have some tame gray squirrels...they are not so damaging. So I don't mind them. We even feed those.

Talking

Yes, they DO stink, don't they?? ALMOST approaching the smell of a skunk only milder with a bit of a Musky smell. Sometimes if I have screen in window and I am not looking I know one is there because of his STINK. It's tolerable though. If I ever got a baby, I'd give it a bath if it stunk.

It appears we have a New Kid on the Block recently. He is Leary of coming up to window where I put the food. I can see him on other closed window ledge with his little eyeball pressed up againt the glass looking in at me. I talk to him and ask him if he's hungry ant tell him to go get it. He usually FREAKS and runs off but comes back later.

Now THAT'S Just Silly.
