University of Alabama scientists have discovered a chemical produced by common soil bacteria may kill neurons that produce dopamine
October 5, 2009 - Filed under: Research | Tagged: Biology, College of Arts & Sciences, Health, Science TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — A chemical produced by common soil bacteria may kill neurons that produce dopamine, according to an article authored by University of Alabama researchers publishing Oct. 6. Dopamine neuron demise leads to the hallmark symptoms of Parkinson’s disease, a movement disorder affecting some 1 million Americans. I used to be a very keen gardener, and tended a plot of nearly one acre for 20 years, frequently getting covered in soil.(I think you call it dirt in the USA). So I wonder how many other PWP's wallowed in soil in the past. See http://uanews.ua.edu/2009/10/chemica...a-researchers/
