Excerpt:

The Obama administration has begun approving new lines of human embryonic stem cells that are eligible for federally funded experiments, opening the way for millions of taxpayer dollars to be used to conduct research that was put off-limits by President George W. Bush.

Default why the silence

Why is no one discussing what seems to me to be a major departure from the Bush administration's ESCR policy? Am I making it more than it is or are supporters of the policy change fearful of sparking debate with those opposed on religious grounds?

I wondered why this wasn't BIG news, aso. Maybe everyone is just tired of debating Ubut, I doubt that theory holds water! lol)

Or could it be that the once thought of as a savior in finding a cure for PD has been negated by the advances in adult stem cells, growth factors, etc?

Hi Sheryl,
This is great news! I think the somewhat muted reaction to the beginning of federal funding for new stem cell lines, may be because many of us did ourr celebrating back in March when Pres. Obama signed the Executive order lifting the restrictions imposed by Pres. Bush, . Then the NIH needed to approve the new guidelines -- that takes us to July. Maybe i was niave, but i assumed the funding would start soon aqfter this. So, now in Dec. while I am happy that this research is finally being funded, i'm also feeling some impatience about getting the funding into the labs more quickly. It sounds like there is already a backlog of applications,
