Default Pass the Antibiotics, Please!

Anyone else have a problem with exacerbation of PD symptoms while taking a round of antibiotics (usually amoxicillin or like)?

Because of my recent foot surgery, I have to take antibiotics prior to having dental work. I am already dreading the increased severity and time "off."

Peg-
Two thoughts:
1- There are several anecdotes of Penicillin VK actually banishing PD symptoms. I don't know how it would be for you but you might try it.
2- You may have an h. pylori colony in your stomach that the antibiotics are making trouble with. That could be very serious as some strains of HP react by pumping out some very nasty toxins. If you discuss this with your doc, he's going to want to try to wipe outthe colony with a triple antibiotic regimen. DO NOT go along with that as it could have very bad results as the toxins flood your system. The best thing that I can come up with on this problem is to use ginger and turmeric daily to reduce the HP gradually over weeks or months.

Currently (2011) taking 200/50 Sinemet CR 8 times a day + 10/100 Sinemet 3 times a day. Functional 90% of waking day but fragile. Failure at exercise but still trying. Constantly experimenting. Beta blocker and ACE inhibitor at present. Currently (01/2013) taking ldopa/carbadopa 200/50 CR six times a day + 10/100 form 3 times daily. Functional 90% of day. Update 04/2013: L/C 200/50 8x; Beta Blocker; ACE Inhib; Ginger; Turmeric; Creatine; Magnesium; Potassium. Doing well.

A "colony" growing in my stomach? That sounds sppooooky!

Do you have minimum dosages for tumeric or ginger, and should they be the pure, natural t ype (e.g. ginger root in lieu of processsed and powdered ginger)?

Thanks again.

No, I'm strictly flying blind on dosage. Better too little than too much, however. Watch for any worsening of symptoms the first couple of weeks, then gradually increase. Also, don't use turmeric powder. It's too strong. Use a tab or cap form. I am serious about that btw. A couple of years ago I learned the hard way, but it took me two weeks of worsening symptoms to catch on. When the smoke had cleared I was left with neuroloical damage to two fingers on my right hand.

The inclination is to not tamper with something like that. But what if I should come down with pnuemonia or something where I really needed antibiotics? Spooky indeed.

I would be careful with the family of antibiotics called fluoroquinolones. These drugs can cause nerve damage...
Cipro, Levaquin, Avelox etc. They should only be used when absolutely necessary...they are toxic to both peripheral and central nerves. I wouldn't think they would be good for PWP.

Peg,

I just finished a round of Zithromyacin or a Z Pack as 'treatment' for a persistent viral infection. My doctor wanted to ward off any other ickies I might succumb to while already sick.

I noticed that my meds seemed to work or flow better? Maybe it was not meds but a symptomatic benefit as Rick mentioned? I do notice that after one week of ending antibiotics and being over the flu, my meds seem to be less effective and I am actually experiencing unusual 'off' periods mostly in the evenings. Geez, I hope this isn't from the antibiotics or a permanent response to the flu. Just what I need.

On an off-color note, I can recommend the Z pack for any one who deals with constipation.

Laura

BTW, love the thread title.

Peg: I just completed a round of somebody's antibacterial pack following removal of a melanoma from my back. I have been mostly "off" for several days . I am guessing you supplied the answer! Bob C

Default Correction

paul

Z-pack (antibiotics) directions are usually "Take 2 tablets the first day, then 1 for the next 5 days."

The 500mg Zpak is one tablet daily, for 3 days.

The 250mg pak is 2 tabs on day one and one daily til gone.

Some bronchitis/pneumonias are resistant to 250mg Zithromax, so the 500mg is an option to get blood levels higher more quickly.

Both paks last 10 days in the body, but have short treatment times.
