and if so, what else are they clueless about? I read this report to mean that instead of lowering the plaques we had thought caused/contributed to Alz. progression, it is the opposite: they should be raised higher because they are protective of the brain. So intead of the plaques being causative, they are an effect.

I wonder if this could be true for PD, since so many are focusing on alpha-synuclein tangles. Here's the link:

I'm sure there's a whole lot we don't know - and aren't even looking at.

My mother is struggling with Alz, along with our whole family. She took the standard prescribed medications, but had nasty reactions. Now we just care for her as well as possible, trying to find those little bits of her that still remain - and they are swiftly becoming harder to detect. It is a horrible disease; my 76 year old father cares for her like a Saint; they have been together for 63 years; high school sweethearts married for 54 years. I am absolutely despondent.

Alzheimer's is a horrible terrible disease for those affected and for their families. I hope your dad is able to get some respite time away from caring for your mother. From my experience, the disease ultimately is much worse on family members and caretakers as the loved one slips away, little by little.
