Default Do you stitch? Do you take photographs? Do you write poetry?

Do you want to help promote Parkinson's disease awareness?

I am waiting for my two squares to arrive. This project is a wonderful way for stitchers of ANY KIND (not just quilters) to become involved.

Do you take photos? Do you write poems? Do you use any kind of craft materials; e.g. fibers, floss, yarn, paint? "The sky is the limit..."

About the Quilt (from an email I received from PDF in December 2009)
The Parkinson's Quilt Project is the first global quilt project to focus the world's attention on the nearly one million people in the US and more than 4.1 million people worldwide living with Parkinson's disease (PD). The project aims to raise awareness of the impact that the disease has on people living with Parkinson’s along with their families, caregivers and friends and on our continued urgency to find a cure.

The Quilt gives people all over the world the chance to express their support of people living with PD and highlight their connection to the disease by adding their own personalized panel. You do not need to be a sewing expert to create a panel for the quilt. You can use paint, needlework, iron-on transfers, fabric markers or even spray paint. If you are a poet, you can write a poem on the panel or even write it on a piece of firm paper and sew that paper to the panel.

The Quilt will consist of panels made by individuals and groups affected by Parkinson’s, in honor of the cause, of their group or in honor of their loved ones affected by PD. Each panel will be two feet tall and two feet wide, and will be sewn together in eight foot sections. There will be the opportunity for groups to create both panels and sections. The Parkinson's Quilt will be displayed for the first time at the 2nd World Parkinson Congress in Glasgow, Scotland from September 28th through October 1st, 2010. After this initial showing, blocks of the Quilt will be available through 2011 for rent to display at PD events. Details of this opportunity will be available in 2010.

Awareness

It is estimated that there are up to one million people living with Parkinson’s disease in the United States and it is estimated 4.1 million people have Parkinson’s worldwide. The primary aim of the quilt is to raise awareness about Parkinson’s disease. This quilt can bring support groups, friends and families together to create a panel with a loved one or honored a loved one who lived with Parkinson’s disease.

**********************************************

The Creativity & PD Exhibit is to be held again at the WPC 2010. The Exhibit will house the first-ever global Parkinson's Quilt Project and is open to anyone touched by PD who wishes to design a panel to be included in this unique project.

Individuals, support groups, and organizations are encouraged to register to design panels or whole quilts for display. You do not need to be quilter for this project. Any sort of art that can be drawn, sewn, affixed, or attached in some manner can be used for a panel. For example, if you are a photographer, you can scan a photograph onto iron on paper and iron the photograph right onto your panel. The sky is the limit with this project and it is open to anyone touched by PD. The more creative the piece the more exciting it will make the final Quilt.

Registration to make a panel will run through June 1, 2010. Space is limited, so register now!
