Just thought I'd let those interested in trying to grow fava beans...that I ordered mine from Sun Organic Farm in San Marcos, CA this year. From the first 20 planted in the greenhouse last month, I have 20 thriving plants...so I am happy with this source for seed. Plus they are organic...so can use them for sprouts in the kitchen, too. Working on ordering my other seeds for the garden....busy time of year for planning and preparing greenhouse and land for the growing season. Feeling great. God is good.

Since the middle of January, I have started eating more foods that were unusual for me ....I strongly believe that our food is our medicine and what we eat affects our whole body function.* I ordered raw Brazil Nuts/ raw cashews/ dried apricots*and* bitter apricot kernels after reading about things that help cancer. Started soaking about 10 apricot kernels in water for*about 12 hours , then rinsing and drying them well and putting them in a tiny glass container in the refrigerator.* In the morning, as a supplement to my normal diet , I eat*one brazil nut, 2 of the bitter apricot kernels and one dried apricot all together and try to chew them a long time.( The brazil nut is big , so I start with it first, breaking it a little in my teeth before adding the apricot and kernels) I am also eating a handful of raw cashew nuts and a handful of pistachio nuts daily. An apple a day and when possible , an avocado , also (price goes from .69 to $1.50 each on these, so I will buy them when they are under a $1.00 each). We are also buying kiwi fruit and enjoying them often. They are*so good for you! I also added over a teaspoon of chia seeds a day and my bowels are moving better.
After a couple of weeks doing this. I started noticing that I wasn't taking my homemade L-dopa tincture from fava beans as often. After a month, some days I only needed it one time (some days I don't need any) It really varies a lot depending on the other foods I have eaten (especially, whether I have had egg plant and*peppers sautéed with onions and garlic cooked up with morning eggs)* DIET DOES AFFECT US SO MUCH. I wasn't sure why my new additions to my diet were affecting my PD symptoms so much. Then, a precious friend sent me this link to a Dr. in Italy using Thiamine (B1) for PD treatment...

Parkinsons vs thiamine*

Easy Health Options(R) - Nature & Wellness Made Simple italian-doctor-curing- parkinsons-disease-with- thiamine/

and it explained why I was so much better. Another friend found the link*on thiamine and diabetes (I am also type 2 diabetic)**
a study about thiamine and diabetes - most diabetics are thiamine deficient.
************** Thiamine Deficiency and Diabetes - Jeffrey Dach MD

Anyway, my mandolin playing has improved so much, my ability to talk to strangers , and children. I am working on*Bible based puppet shows and making puppets again (hadn't done needlework, besides mending, for a very long time). I really didn't think I could feel any better than I had been. Thought things were going*very well....BUT, I am functioning much better now on much* less L-dopa supplementation.** So, I just wanted to encourage my brothers and sisters with PD to try these food sources of thiamine.
FARM NEWS: Managed to get a small area of the lower garden tilled before heavy rains and made into raised beds. After the rains, we easily planted 430 fava beans into these very soft raised beds on March the 2nd (first above ground planting day in March)* First time I've been on schedule in years. Still need to get another area tilled and planted in between rains this week. It's hard work, and we stay so busy . God is good. Life is good.* Eat good organic food and exercise in the sunshine.* God bless you all.** Love,* Aunt Bean

Aunt Bean is*doing something a bit different, and it is helping a lot.* Now boosting thiamine(* B1)* by foods.* I soak a brazil nut , 5 cashews, 5 almonds, 5 pistachio,
2 bitter apricot pits ( seeds*that look like small almonds)* , and a dried organic unsulfured apricot in filtered water overnight.* Then rinse them well in the morning and eat them.* I am taking my fava L-dopa tincture about once a day instead of 5 times a day* (and less of a dose). My body is functioning better/ my mandolin playing is 100% improved. Here is an article about an Italian Dr. treating PD with high doses of thiamine.* Italian doctor curing Parkinson’s disease with thiamine - Easy Health Options(R)
I hope this information will help some of my brothers and sisters out there with PD....it has made a huge difference in my life since the first of February this year.* The gardens are looking good.* We planted 3 black raspberry canes this morning, The favas are looking good. Time to weed, hill and mulch them. I call it* "The bedding of the beans" ,a very special time for me for the last few years. I will have been using the L-dopa fava tincture now since October of 2009. So, they have been a big part of my life.* Eat well, exercise, get out in the sun, and play!** God Bless you.*** Love*,* Aunt Bean

Default b1 injections

I am so glad to hear you are doing better, and taking less ldopa supplements, but really am puzzled. We got a doctor (took us awhile to find one, but that's another story) who was willing to script us the injectable form of B1 that was the focus of several studies. You inject it into the muscle, which isn't easy to do if you don't like needles! We used the thigh muscle and alternated legs each day. We noticed no difference whatsoever. It was so disappointing because it sounds like it helped so many other PWP.

I can only think that the B1 injected into the muscle isn't as good or synergistic as that you get from food, but the research using the injectable B1 sure did sound promising.

Has anyone else tried the massive doses of B1 that Dr. Costantini used in his patients and if so, with what results? His explanation of why it helps makes a lot of sense, so we don't know why it didn't help us.

Hi Lurking! Still doing great here. Busy getting gardens ready to plant next week. Cold crops doing well. Just harvested a dehydrator full of fava top Buds from low garden. Bean seeds were planted the first week in March. They are full of blooms now...so if we have sufficient pollination...should have plenty of beans also. Plus removing the tops will encourage side shoots to come up, thus more beans, more tops!! Do not know anyone doing the B 1 shots....sorry that didn't work for you (it wouldn't work for me because needles stress me out and would make my symptoms worse!!!) Go for food. Soak the nuts overnight , rinse and grind them and put in food if chewing is hard. FOOD is Medicine Love ya Aunt Bean

Now researching and experimenting with moringa. Ordered seed and have 4 plants we are attempting to grow. Saturday bought moringa powder and started taking it. Already I am sleeping better, a real plus. It also gives me more energy . Has good research for lowering blood sugar levels for diabetics, lowering cholesterol, helping solve constipation issues and much more. Check into this amazing nutritious tree and its medicinal properties!

of my two morringa trees , the one in the greenhouse is flourishing now...the one in low garden is still just trying to survive, next to chia plants , who are now several inches taller than him. I am still eating my 1 brazil nut, 4 cashews, 4 almonds, handful of pistachios and 2 bitter almonds soaked overnight and rinsed. Taking less L-dopa and memory for names and mandolin playing still improving. It amazes me that instead of going downhill, I am improving. Food is medicine. Get plenty of good nutrition you all out there in PD land (is that anything like TV LAND???) Our Tame Blackberries, wild blackberries and wineberries are being picked and consumed now, I eat more than I freeze. Made popsicles with blackberry juice, almond milk, lemon extract and xanthan gum last nite, and there is blackberry pie in fridge, raspberry /chocolate muffins in the freezer...yummy! Garden is looking good so far this year...so far I have not had to go to Florida , but dad who is 91 now is in the hospital again. Pray the antibiotics will get rid of the pneumonia. God bless and guide you all . Love, Aunt Bean

Thanks all for prayers for my dad, he has gone home from the hospital and his life is getting back to normal. Update on me....seems each day I am getting stronger. Tame blackberries are starting to come in and I eat as much as I want right off the thornless vines. Also, found a good supplier for papaya a our local flea market. I have always been amazed at how much papaya has such a big effect on my PD symptoms. It changes my face expression and skin tone more than anything else I do. I washed, cut and peeled one last night, and ate about 1/3rd of it. This morning it was the first thing I wanted..it was so good...by 10am....looked in the mirror and could sware I looked 10 years younger. Have also been picking and eating a lot of wineberries and zucchini, fresh lettuce, etc....Fresh makes so much difference in the vitamins and minerals that you can assimilate. Get out and walk in the sunshine and exercise .... and smile!!!

Well, it is mid November. Time to clear the garden, mulch the beds, etc Aunt Bean is still doing well. Still eating the nuts , that I soak overnight. Still only need tincture once or twice a day since February, still improving in playing the mandolin , and staying busy with various activities. Still researching foods and herbs and experimenting with gluten free recipes. I pray you will all have a blessed Thanksgiving. Keep exercising, eat good organic food, get out in the sunshine and breathe deeply!
