Sorry I have not posted for a while.....but have good news to share!!!
I tried a tincture using the untreated organic fava bean seeds I bought to plant outside. I sprouted them for 3 whole days....then steamed them for 8 minutes/ peeled and rinsed and mashed them and placed them into a jar. Covered them with brandy and shook them for a month (just like the fava tops tincture) It is a very simple proceedure..needs no garden! It works...actually, I think it does better than the fava tops tincture. This means absolutely anyone can make it! I have not found someone to do a chemical test on it yet to measure the l-dopa content....so hard to find someone who will do a test without grant money. Will let you all know results when this is done. The fava tops tincture was 2 drops is approximately 1 mg l-dopa. Got to go. God Bless!! |

Hi Aunt Bean,
Seems to me that what you have here in homeopathic terms is a "nosode" whiich may stimulate your own levadopa(as well as accompanying enzymes, vitamins, minerals etc) production - much better than taking boatloads of it! LOVE your creative work - I'm going to try this. keep on keepin' on! warm regards, md Quote:

We have decided on June 19th for a fava bean festival/ workshop / garden tour etc,
Robert Rodgers from Parkinson's Recovery will be a special guest for the day...hope some of you that are interested in the work or growing and making your own natural l-dopa products will be able to come be with us for the day. May you take time to breathe, and enjoy life during this busy season. God Bless Aunt Bean |

Just a quick update ....I have sent the fava sprout tincture to Ken Allan in Canada, since we still do not have a researcher local to work with and test things for me. He received it and send that he will try to do the test and report back next week....Pray the dopamine level will be sufficient to make it a worthwhile kitchen project for many of you out there struggling with conventional meds. Using fava sprouts will mean that as long as you can obtain organic, sproutable beans...you wouldn't even have to grow a garden, just do the whole process in your kitchen. If there is someone in the medical field out there who is interested in helping with this research....please send me a personal message , because I am not to a computer very often and sometimes only for a 15 minute library spot with only time to check email and my avatar for messages.

The dopamine level may not be the measure of the efficacy of your medicine rather the essence itself may prove valuable. I know of a british homeopath who does extensive research in homeopathic materia medica...will send him an email. also am wondering about fermenting the fava pod juice... -md

Somewhere along the line, it might be worthwhile testing the addition of grapefruit juice to the mix and see if it benefits from the inhibition of the enzymes.
Another possibility would be the addition of ginger. It is having an impressive effect for me. If you want to prove it to yourself, take a dose along with sinemet. Prepare for dose-dependent dyskinesias! Then taper back. Quote:

Aunt Bean is allergic to citrus...so grapefruit is out for me....my patient says she doesn't use grapefruit juice either. I could try ginger as an addition to the fermented papaya though. Right now am using my last batch of it from the fridge (not adding salt & ground flax and dehydrating it) Works fine. Just put 2 Tbs in my cereal in the morning.
