I developed autoimmune type 1 diabetes when I was 27. I am on insulin pump therapy and usually do pretty well controlling my blood sugar levels. I read about the possibility that Sinemet causing higher blood sugar levels. I have noticed that my fasting blood sugar levels are higher since I have been taking Sinemet. One of the reasons that I am on pump therapy is because I had problems with dawn phenomenon. That is what they call it when your blood sugar rises while you are sleeping. Is anybody else having a similar experience with blood sugar increasing while on Sinemet?
Another thing I am curious about is how you manage with the whole issue of protein and Sinemet at meals. As a diabetic, my meals are pretty balanced. I always eat a balance of healthy carbs, protein, fruits and veggies. Protein is really important for keeping my blood sugar stable. So far, I haven't had a problem with the Sinemet not working because of the amount of protein that I eat. I am just curious as to how other diabetics handle the whole protein/Sinemet issue. I would appreciate hearing from anyone with advice about this. Thanks, Evonne |

Evonne..All I have to offer is, when I take generic Sinemet 25/100 protein kicks it in very fast..If I have carbs, especially pasta at medication time, the generic Sinemet doesnt work at all
When I take the brand name Sinemet, or Stalevo, it kicks in between 30-60 minues no matter what I eat, or dont eat
