I am beginning to get some organization into the files that I have collected and posting them on my blog. Some of the material is being gathered into PD-relevant collections that I am calling "Factsheets" since their content has been peer-reviewed and published. In order to reach a wider audience than just RLSmi , I am going to post them here as well.
---------------------------- Factsheet: Green Tea Extract Green tea is one of the primary botanicals for the PWP. _____________________________________________ …its main catechin polyphenol constituent (-)-epigallocatechin-3-gallate has been shown to exert neuroprotective/neurorescue activities in a wide array of cellular and animal models of neurological disorders. (Mandel 2008)-- http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/sites/en...term=18641210+ The results of the study demonstrated that GTE significantly attenuated LPS-induced sickness behavior as well as hepatic damage either by its antioxidant activity or by inhibiting LPS induced cytokine production in rats. (Singal 2006)-- http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/sites/en...term=16444665+ Microglial activation is believed to play a pivotal role in the selective neuronal injury associated with several neurodegenerative disorders, including Parkinson’s disease (PD) and Alzheimer’s disease. We provide evidence that (-)-epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG), a major monomer of green tea polyphenols, potently inhibits lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-activated microglial secretion of nitric oxide (NO) and tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-alpha) (Li 2004)-- http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/sites/en...term=15478178+ tea drinking may decrease the incidence of dementia, AD and Parkinson’s disease. In particular, its main catechin polyphenol constituent (-)-epigallocatechin-3-gallate (EGCG) has been shown to exert neuroprotective/neurorescue activities in a wide array of cellular and animal models of neurological disorders. (Mandel 2008)-- http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/18953110 The neuronal activity of dopaminergic neurons is closely linked to dopamine release. When neurons switch from a single-spike firing to bursts of action potentials, the release of dopamine increases. The above experimental results suggest that EGCG increases the neuronal activity… (Park 2007)-- http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/sites/en...term=17174286+ …pretreatment with L-theanine significantly attenuated the down-regulation of brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) and glial cell line-derived neurotrophic factor (GDNF) production in SH-SY5Y cells. These results suggest that L-theanine directly provide neuroprotection against PD-related neurotoxicants…. (Cho 2008) http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/sites/en...term=18452993+

try posting the links again Rick. Not sure why they do not show if you posted them?

Chemar-
I've tried everything that I can think of, but they just don't carry over. I have tried- 1) Simply going to my blog and copying the full posting, coming back to NT and pasting 2) Going into WordPress and doing the same 3) Pasting the posting into Word, recreating the links there, and then copy/pasting into NT The text comes through fine but the links are stripped away. Any ideas? Here is a link to the blog posting http://parkinsonsonline.org/blog1/?p=666

This is what is happening.
It happens to me too when I try and copy a post of my own: The hyperlink command does not copy over when used, and also the "abbreviated" links do not copy or work. One has to go back either to the original text as it appears in on this forum and copy/paste it with the url tags. This is how the text box functions are set up on bulletin boards. (they are not like MS Word which would copy the link in toto for you) When I copy a link from a post from here, I actually click on it and go to the link and take that link addy from the address on the newly opened window and put THAT in the post. I'll edit your post, Rick for you. If you have any other questions just let me know. I just checked and they all copied over.

Thanks, mrsD. I get a glimmer of what is needed. It seems like that to maximize the usefulness to the reader and across platforms that it would be best if I just forgot the embedded links and used the actual URL. That should allow any user to paste it into their browser no matter how mangled it had become in its journey. Is that right?

You know, I am not great on computers. I happen to know about this problem, because it has happened to me too!
I personally do not like hyperlinks, as a reader, either. One never knows where it will take you, and I am paranoid about the net. The new Firefox updates have removed the "properties" that would show when right clicked...I used to screen hyperlinks before considering clicking on them. Now I can't even do THAT anymore ...sheesh. To make matters worse, when PubMed upgraded their site recently, this did affect the addresses on some papers you may pull up. Some of the addys on them, don't work as links here at all...they show up as text only. This happens when you go sideways in a search using the right hand of the page listed suggestions for similar papers. But it also happens when you enter from Google. But it doesn't happen every time. I find this new development very frustrating to copying things to help people on this board. I don't understand it, either...and I know others have run into it and mentioned it to me. What does work in cases when the links go into text, is to copy the PMID number off the bottom of the abstract, open a new PubMed window and put that into the keyword box. It will bring up the paper, and that addy typically is useable for some reason. Also any link you copy that has ...... dots in it, to abbreviate in a format will not copy over. Those dots do not show if you hit "quote" and view the box and url. The full url will typically be in brackets and you can copy/paste it without the url tags then into a new reply box if you don't want to open a new window and go to the link itself. I find either is about the same timewise, so I go to the original link, accuracy. So basically I just always, go to where I am trying to copy and use the original address. The various formats just all seem conflicting more so now. I also find it hard to put into words, this convoluted problem, so I hope you are following me.

thanks for fixing that mrsD
yes, hyperlinks and long links that appear in abbreviated form in text become dead links if copied over that way. One has to copy the original link URL and either redo the hyperlink here, or post the entire link. This is the same on all message boards when copying links

I keep telling myself I need to consult a Naturopath before settling on a core
regime. I must admit I have been dabbbling with supplements but only one at a time to enable isolating any sort of effect, good or otherwise, on symptoms. Has anyone had an adverse reaction to an EGCG supplement? I didn't read the fine print and discovered after the fact it had Hoodia, an appetite suppressant. Hello, on Sinemet and Requip here...don't need that! Worse, I found that my meds would do a sudden, harsh off and I had trouble getting back to "normal". I had to take an extra Sinemet and the dyskinesia was wicked (for me). Later that night, I sat for a good 2-3 hours immobilized because my lower right leg and foot went completely dystonic. If I even relaxed my leg a smidgen, I would get the start of one nasty Charly Horse in my calf. Medicine and half a benadryl did nothing. After a few hours, in desperation I took another benadryl (the full monty this time) and my leg/foot relaxed in minutes. Clearly to me this was a case of some sort of acetylcholine spike? Has anyone else experienced this? EGCG may be neuroprotective but if my body is one big spasm.... Laura |

Laura-
Try again but ditch the hoodia. Use a good brand like Jarrow. Start with a minimal dose and work up. Keep notes. Quote:
