(I have found info about reservatrol to be contradictory as to its usefulness. Nonetheless, below a report of its ability to positively affect neuroinflammatory markers at least in experimental models.
Peg--could this help in your case??? I feel my husband already takes large doses of antioxidants; in addition he refuses to incorporate even one more pill into his supplement regime, thus he does not use resveratrol...yet. The report is also from India, so I know husband's neurologist would dismiss it without reading it. madelyn) Biochemical and Biophysical Research Communications Volume 394, Issue 2, 2 April 2010, Pages 360-365 doi:10.1016/j.bbrc.2010.03.014 NF-κB inhibitory action of resveratrol: A probable mechanism of neuroprotection in experimental diabetic neuropathy Ashutosh Kumara and Shyam S. Sharma, a, a Molecular Neuropharmacology Laboratory, Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology, National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research (NIPER), Sector-67, S.A.S. Nagar, Punjab 160062, India Received 1 February 2010. Available online 6 March 2010. Abstract ...The etiology of diabetic neuropathy revolves around oxidative stress, AGE formation, lipid peroxidation etc. All these stimulate inflammatory processes and NF-κB cascade is considered as one of the major players of inflammatory response. Activation of NF-κB results in elevated levels of inflammatory mediators. COX-2 and TNF-α activity have also been correlated with inflammatory damage in the pathophysiology of diabetic neuropathy (DN). Therefore we investigated the effect of resveratrol on NF-κB inflammatory cascade, COX-2, TNF-α and IL-6 levels in experimental DN. We found that resveratrol ... treatment decreased the expression of p65 and IκB-α in treated rats. Treatment also ameliorated the elevated levels of TNF-α, IL-6 and COX-2. Resveratrol treatment produced significant decrease in nerve MDA levels in treated animals which may also be contributing to reduction in neuro-inflammation. This study confirms the NF-κB inhibitory activity and anti-inflammatory activity of resveratrol which may contribute to neuroprotection in diabetic neuropathy apart from its antioxidant effect. http://www.sciencedirect.com/science...342cd293ec24e3
