Default Functional Medicine

Functional medicines only sounds like an oxymoron!

Institute for Functional Medicine. I have several practitioners near me so will make some calls next week. I just love their whole concept implies the standard mode care we receive now may indeed be dysfunctional! I gather, the practitioners all have traditional med degrees but have licensing in this as well. Has anyone tried treatment with this approach?

From their website:

What is Functional Medicine?
Functional medicine is personalized medicine that deals with primary prevention and underlying causes instead of symptoms for serious chronic disease.

Functional medicine is an evolution in the practice of medicine that better addresses the healthcare needs of the 21st century. By shifting the traditional disease-centered focus of medical practice to a more patient-centered approach, functional medicine addresses the whole person, not just an isolated set of symptoms

My family practitioner, Dawn Motyka, is a an MD with a Functional Medicine license. Very competent. Put me immediately on CoQ10 when I was diagnosed by a neuro 4 years ago. Has had me tested for food allergies and heavy metals. She cured my frozen shoulder with just 2 acupuncture treatments (which she is licensed to practice). I like her and her approach to medicine alot. She has a weekly radio program on our local NPR station here in Santa Cruz CA and an NPR podcast. Here's the url:
