I recall Fiona was aware of this drug and also questioned its use in PD; anyone else aware of its potential/research? Madelyn

Funnily enough I just googled 'shamanism' and 'Parkinson's' and found references to ibogaine. There are many more references to ayahuasca though. What do you already know about ibogaine? I read a very good book about it called 'Breaking Open the Head', it's a very powerful psychedelic and should only be used with supervision. I used a lot of psychedelics in my 20s but I would be quite nervous about taking ibogaine or ayahuasca, even with very experienced guides. But I'm sure the insights gained would lead to healing of some kind even if PD symptoms didn't improve. although it seems according to what I have read today that these herbs increase GDNF too. Hmmm, got me thinking - I have a friend who is practising shamanism, might delve deeper into this...

Dextromethorphan acts on similar receptors. LDN too.

Last summer I tried a daily dose of a 1/4 teaspoon of ayahuasca for 3 months. It was intentionally too small an amount to have a psychotropic effect, but I wanted to see if it would alter my symptoms. Frankly, I wasn't a clever enough white rat to do a serious before-and-after test. It's kind of like CoQ10. No way to really know if things would have gotten worse without the medicine. I do think there's lots more room for research on the neurologically positive effects of dimethyltriptamines (one of the constituents of both ayahuasca and mucuna). And I must say, I became rather fond of the bitter tasting herb.

You think sinemet is really that color?
But seriously, I understand your feelings. But one thing odd about DXM, because of its illicit popularity and the quantities used there, it has been tested far more than any drug we use. Heck, maybe more than any on the market.

I'm not concerned about the DXM, just the crap they mix it with which for all I know is neurotoxic. |

Ibogaine is really good for curing addictions. Ibogaine helped me resolve a heroin habit.
